Hi guys! I submitted my application a month ago, but since then I haven’t heard from the school yet. Does it indicate anything negative? Is there anything we need to do while awaiting? After how long do applicants receive interviews? Thank you;)
Same here, but when did your application complete?
@Youtopia Finished applying on June 20th. From what I was told, can take up to two months to get a decision but hopefully by week 6 they let applicants know. What are you planning to major in?
@Youtopia @Xixixi_Tong @Tajeli I finished applying on June 19th and got an email back from GS saying:
Your file seems to be complete at this time and it has been pushed to be reviewed by our Admissions Committee.
Once a decision has been made you will be notified by email to check your application status page.
I applied as an Econ major. Do you guys think it’s worth sending in the Optional Essay now?
Oh, and was I supposed to submit the New Student Scholarship Application at the time of submission? Or is it too late now?
@Tajeli Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience! I have chosen sociology as my intended major.
It’s already been six weeks since my submission…tortured so much these days by purely waiting…
How should I prepare for the interview? Hopefully efforts will pay off
@oddballer same here, applied as an econ major but if I’m accepted I plan to major in CS & stats. I think you should call up and ask if you can submit the optional essay, if they haven’t begun going through your application yet they may let you submit the additional essay. I submitted the optional essay but mines was rather short, about half a page.
@Youtopia Youll most likely hear back from them anytime now :), itll definitely be worth the wait once you get the acceptance letter. It seems they only interview certain applicants, I dont think they interview all of the students they accept, but if you were going to prepare I would just go over some basic questions they might ask like why do you want to go to GS? Also, if you did poorly in any class or there was an area of your essay that was important but you didn’t manage to write about it in great detail, you should prepare to give good response in case they want to know more about a particular event.
Are both of you transferring from schools in NY?
@oddballer Hi! I sent in the optional essay with my entire application. People I knew who got accepted to GS did the extra work. Like Tajeli said, you should contact the admissions office in advance to make sure that there’s still a chance for them to view your essay. Wish you success!
@oddballer Hi, I did not send the optional essay. I finished everything on June 16, and it has been nearly one month now. Little worried about my application since I have left school for 5 more years. I spent some time in hospital and after that focused in graffiti. I am an international student so it is probably too late for me to submitted my application… I applied art history major.
@Youtopia @Tajeli So I did call GS and they told me that I could submit it via email! I guess it doesn’t hurt to try.
@Xixixi_Tong 5 more years, hospital, focusing on graffiti sounds like a path to GS! I am an international student as well and I submitted my app 3 days after you! (though my app was pushed for review on the 1st of July. Did you get an email saying that they are reviewing your app?)
I’m not sure if we are getting our decisions by July 20th or in August but I wouldn’t mind if I get in as a Spring admit.
@oddballer @Tajeli @Xixixi_Tong I am also an international student. You guys have amazing experience! That’ll definitely be an eye-catcher.
Speaking of notification, I did not receive that email saying my app is under review. The last one I received was a kind reminder which informed me of a score report that was yet to arrive. Does it mean that my app is probably NOT reviewed? I’m a little worried.
Good Luck to all of us!
@oddballer @Xixixi_Tong @Youtopia Finished submitting everything on the 20th, my application says everything has been submitted but I havent received an email confirming that its under review. Hopefully will all know by the end of this month. Are any of you transferring a lot of credits, or plan to defer enrollment for the spring once your accepted?
@Tajeli I went to a CC in California and I have 132 quarter units (88 semester units). I don’t mind deferring enrollment for spring. I’m just worried about lack of EC/Work and my GSAE results (I don’t think I did so well).
@oddballer I did not have a very strong SAT score (1890) since I have been out of school for so long. My TOEFL is 109 though. I sent an email to the GS admission and got a reply for the under review message. I wouldn’t mind a deferring admission either. But firstly, we should be lucky enough to get in… I am really anxious…
@Youtopia you should call them or send an email to confirm. Don’t worry, I think if your application system showed everything received, then they should start to review your application.
HI @Kevin2509 Of course we can chat! Congratulations! I apologize for the late reply, I hadn’t logged in for a while.
Congratulations to all those admitted!
I received a message on the https://studentviewer.finaid.columbia.edu stating: “you have been awarded a New Student Special Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year” but I don’t see any more information with regards to details about the scholarship.
I would appreciate any input.
@Ozz2277 It means you have been allocated scholarship money - just give it a day or two for them to disclose the specific amount. I’d expect 4,000-5,000 per semester.
@nickdrake Thanks for the input. Your user name rocks by the way. What major are you planning for?
@Ozz2277 Haha familiar with the artist? I’ll most likely major in political science (law school aspirations), but we’ll see. You?
@nickdrake Very familiar my friend. Computer science, considering doubling in data science. I have this crazy idea about creating an interactive computer language for healthcare.
