For work experience, I’ve work at a restaurant as a manager and overlooked the systems.
I’ve done some research online and saw that the average GPA is ~3.3 for transfers. However it seems to me that transferring to Da’more-McKim is a lot harder than the other schools and that they are very picky about transfers. I would appreciate it if anyone would give some feedback and advice. Thanks!

Cumulative GPA (after two semesters): 3.8

Hoping to major in International Business with a concentration in French!
Also…I tested out of high school at age 16 and have been a full time college student since then (I’m currently 17). I mentioned it in my essay, but I’m not sure if this will help me at all.
I’ve participated in Youth and Government for 3 years and held a couple positions in the program, worked in a restaurant for a year. If anyone could help me gauge my chances that would be wonderful!
Hey, I applied to the International Affairs (IA) major on November 7, 2015. I hope to double major in Criminal Justice (CJ) but I definitely wanted IA as my primary for multiple reasons. It’s my main interest while CJ is second yet just as important. I got everything turned in to Admissions and Financial Aid. Now I’m just waiting.
I just came from NEU the other day. If you applied and have not had the chance to travel to NEU. I will tell you this now. You’ll definitely not be disappointed. The campus is situated perfectly in Boston. It is literally a transportation hub with two T- Lines on each side of the campus with many cultural food options not too far. I had a really cool tour guide who showed me everything from the gym to a huge auditorium where in the middle of my tour guide speaking, a professor began playing the electric guitar to the 100+ students. It was perfect timing. Besides the big student number in that class, I had the opportunity to look at other classrooms and saw for myself that many of the classes were small for a university with 20,000+ students. I counted around 16 in some and 24 in others. However, those are the ones I saw so don’t overstate those numbers. It’s a really eye-opening campus with many renovations that have been done. I was also able to meet half of the IA Undergraduate professors through the Director of IA for the Master’s program whom I’ve been speaking to for about 2 months through email and on the phone. The faculty is on point when it comes to helping students and I saw that first hand. I just wanted to give some of you’ll insight on that. Anyway, here’s my stats.
I’m transferring from CC after a year & a half with a 3.72 GPA & Criminal Justice A.S.
Hillsborough Community College
College EC’s:
-Dean’s List & Graduated with Honors
-Phi Theta Kappa
-Criminal Justice Student Association Member
-CJSA Senator to Student Government
-Volunteered with special needs orphans in Rabat, Morocco
Involved in many speaking events to high school students about CJ
-Wrote International Relation papers for International Club
*There’s more on my resume
Completed 83 Credits but over 30 of them will transfer because I'm switching majors.
I have 3 years of work experience and a lot of extracurricular activities in HS.
I want to major in International Affairs, minor or major in Criminal Justice and East Asian Studies.
Hey, I believe you have a strong shot. As long as your essay is top notch then I wouldn’t see why you wouldn’t be competitive. Don’t stress too much about it. I do believe you being in Europe will help haha. I mean come on, they crave diversity also it shows that you’ve global awareness which I was told helps you out during admissions. However, it is not a guarantee. Not even a 4.0 :o …BUT don’t stress I believe in you. Just think of new ways to grab Admissions attention if you haven’t done so such as more recommendations. Don’t forget that your campus president or dean may be willing to write a recommendation for you. Mines did. I’m in the process of writing another essay about my interest in International Relations and why NEU is a perfect fit for me. This essay will be reviewed by 3 people before I submit XD It’s not about quantity but quality. Remember that. Just don’t give in. So exhaust all avenues because you never know what could happen.
So from my understanding, they will look heavily at your HS and College records because you have less than 30 credits. Since you just said that you’ve tested out of HS, then I will make the assumption that your grades are gorgeous and top notch. You have no doubt that you’re competitive but you seem unsure. Why? You need to have more confidence. Anyone can get denied but still, you need to be more in control of your emotions and will to succeed. What stopped you from graduating HS early? Nothing. What stopped you from getting that 3.8? Nothing. From this point, you need to be getting recommendations and I suggest you write a high-quality essay and submit it through the NEU portal if you felt that they won’t notice that side of you. Remember, you shouldn’t be helpless in this situation. You control what they see and know about you. Don’t forget that.
You have an amazing shot. A 4.0 won’t get you in alone however your record along with that GPA not to forget the fact that you are in an honors program will certainly make you extremely competitive. But don’t stress. Here’re my tips that I’ve learned from admissions, current students, faculty, and from my own habits.
Make sure that you get well-crafted recommendations. Think of individuals from your past experiences with those organizations.
If you don’t mind writing, write another essay about interest in NEU such as ( how it will help me further my goals, my three favorite words and how I will bring those meanings to making NEU a better place for others, how my childhood led me up to applying to a college like NEU, etc.) and submit it through the NEU Portal. But make sure…your essay is well crafted/reviewed and not just written out of pure anxiety. Never forget that NEU tells you what kind of student it is looking for so…obviously do not ignore the Admissions page like so many people do and they just wait until decision when it is too late. Be proactive.Write from your heart and don’t forget what NEU looks for in a student.
Speak with the professors, speak with them, just do it. haha, It really does help you when it comes to gaining more info and keeping that flame inside you burning brighter. This will motivate you to get those recommendations and writing a new essay. Also, never be too shy to ask for a recommendation from an NEU professor after a few conversations.
If you can visit NEU, do so. They have a transfer session coming in the middle of March.
Again I think your record is great! No worries for you. But never get comfortable because of that. Follow those tips and I’m sure that will help you.

I’m very excited and nervous about applying to Northeastern into the Bouve College of Health Sciences for Fall 2016. I’m currently a freshman Genetics major at University of New Hampshire. A part of the Honors program, Half-marathon Club, and Project Sunshine, I’ve also done some lab training in cell culture during my first semester. I’m not confident in my transfer essay (generic not very exciting), and my recommendation letter is from my English teacher as my science classes were large lectures and I didn’t get close enough to the professor. Here are some other stats, I would appreciate your feedback.
-High School GPA: 4.47 (3.9 unweighted)

Second Semester: Honors Biology II, General Chemistry II, Applied Biostatistics
I will be taking a summer class to be a Certified Nursing Assistant this Summer. I’ve also taken a summer class on genetics through Brown University. Typical family situation, no special circumstances or events. I’m from Massachusetts so not sure how that will impact my chances.
I’d appreciate any help
Has anyone heard anything at all? I hope this isn’t like last year where, according to last year’s transfer thread, decisions weren’t made until around April 27th!
After I sign into the application status check, the “What We Know About You” section says that I’m a high school student - does this happen for anyone else?
@Giraffing I haven’t heard back either. I remember reading those forums and they received their decision pretty late compared to forums before Fall 2015. I hope it’s not the same this time around.
@kfellysnena Yeah, it has been like that on mines since they activated my student profile page in January. I applied in November. I believe it’s just a system error or something because it won’t allow me to change it but on my application status page it says that I’m prospective transfer. It should be the same for you. So don’t worry.
