Also rejected from CAS. I don’t think it was solely based on GPA. Cause I got all As with intense organic classes, molecular biology class, cal-based physics, and Calculus I & II, and my GPA is 4.0 for 3 semesters; all As on my midterm report. But still got rejected!!
Were those of you who were accepted receive a financial aid package as well? I submitted my CSS & FASFA awhile ago, but still have to upload some tax forms by the CSS deadline of April 15th, wonder if that is pushing my decision back?
Accepted CAS Poli Sci

Wow. I didn’t get a decision today, but so many really qualified people got rejected. I’m sorry for you, guys.
Oh my goodness only April 6th and people are already getting decisions?!
Seems like they’re accepting/rejecting the poli-sci majors first
Seeing highly qualified applicants get rejected, I have no hopes
Anyone else accepted and unable to see finaid? I’m fairly certain my financial aid application was complete.
@Batwonder77 I’m probably going to appeal anyway. Have to at least give it a shot. I am also transferring from a prestigious engineering program which is ranked higher than Northwestern’s so that should help.
I’m thinking that Freshman transfers might have a better shot than Soph.'s and that certain colleges might not have as many spots as others? IDK, whole situation sucks – congrats to everyone who got in though
I can’t believe they’re already sending out decisions, I thought I had a little longer before I had to start worrying… lol.
Apparently their acceptance rate for transfers is around 12%? This rejection is somewhat demoralising because I’ve applied to more selective schools like the Ivies, Stanford, JHU, Chicago, etc
I hate to break it to you BatWonder77, but I also considered the Ivies and UChicago and all of their transfer rates are under 3%
Accepted CAS Econ as a rising Sophomore. Truly sorry to those who didn’t make it in this time. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about college admissions after having gone through the process twice, it’s that it is very random. I see a lot of people on here whose stats make them far more deserving of admission over me. Wanted to post my stats on here to help out future applicants, though.
Basic Rundown:
Current School: Top 10 public school in southeast
College GPA: 3.76
HS GPA: 4.4 W (not sure about UW)
SAT: 2210
Need for Financial Aid: No
Honors: in Honors Program at my current school, Dean’s List Fall 2015, AP Scholar with Distinction
Extracurriculars in College:
(1) Assistant House Manager for our performing arts center
(2) Play in symphony orchestra
(3) Activities board committee member
(4) Several internships: Metropolitan Museum of Art, record label, theater company
(5) Founded secret concert network in college town
(6) Run half marathons
College Recs:
Two great recs from professors I got close with over first semester.
Essays:
Felt my essays weren’t the best–spent more time on the Common App essay compared to the Northwestern personal statement.
Accepted to CAS Econ: Applied the day the application was due and will be a rising sophomore.
@booklover97 Not necessarily; Penn has around a 10% acceptance rate and I think Columbia, Brown, and Cornell have 6% acceptance rates.
Congrats to those who got accepted in the first round!! Do you guys have a reply deadline?
I am so nervous as there are so many competent applicants turned out getting rejections. Sorry and good luck everyone!
Accepted CAS Econ. There is a reply deadline of three weeks but they said they would extend it if you email them.
@IBProspect123 i also applied for aid but have not gotten a package since my tax materials have not gone through yet. If you log into Caesar you can find a financial aid to do list
@rthoya Thank you for getting back to me & congratulations! Were you notified today of your acceptance? Also, what is “Caesar”? The only response from NU I have received is an email confirming all of my material has been submitted, are we suppose to have access to a portal of some kind? Also, do you mind briefly sharing your stats? (I’m curious because I’m also a prospective CAS Econ applicant)
Thanks@rthoya
Wow, you guys received decision so early. I have heard nothing at all from them…
We are pleased to inform you that your transfer application to Northwestern University is now complete. Transfer admission decisions are made on a rolling basis after the application deadline has passed.
This is the only email I received from them…
I applied last year as a high school student but got rejected though…
Will this affect my admission this year?
I think I have pretty strong essays and 4.0 college GPA and 4.3 weighted high school GPA.
@owenrider I mean I think it’s evident by some of the very qualified people who were rejected that it’s A LOT more than good GPAs. They must be looking for something very specific and that has me worried.
