@luckie1367 Greetings fellow UCLA senior,
How hard it is to get classes at UCLA, and Is there a huge difficulty gap between CC and UCLA?

Am I the only person who didn’t get ANY financial aid because of the family income?
hello studen loans
@forshevchenko Did you not see it on MyUCLA?
@Hungryforapples they send decisions out in waves. I was actually supposed to get my decision on March 1st but had an issue w/ my test scores being filed under an old application. Did you apply? What program? If its your first choice good luck!!
Accepted!!
Major: Pre-Psychology
GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
Prereqs: All done!
Igetc: Yep.
TAP: No.
ECs: Not too great, but a fair amount of hours spent volunteering in the arts community. Worked full-time all the way through school.
Personal Statement: 9.5/10
Hooks: Returned to school after a less than mediocre high school experience. Personal experience with psychology/mental health growing up.
Yeah I don’t get anything. They offered a loan that’s all
How can you guys know how many points you get for your personal statements?
@“Anh Swan” Those are based on your own opinion… there’s no way to know if their “10/10” is actually a “3/10”
Got 23K in Financial Aid that I honesty didn’t think I’d get. When do we find out about Regents?
@“Anh Swan” they just make up those numbers, and everyone always thinks it ranges from an 8-10. People have large egos
If they were rejected they wouldn’t have thought their essays were good, they assume they were good just because they were accepted. I was accepted but I don’t know how they would grade my essay. It mostly boils down to grades.
Admission Decision: Accepted
Overall GPA: 3.59
Major GPA: 4.0
Major Pre-reqs Completed (Y/N): Will be complete by Spring 2016
Major: Pre-Political Science
TAP (Y/N): Y
IGETC (Complete/Incomplete): Will be complete by Spring 2016
Personal statements: Very honest and sincere. I had UCLA Rep’s read it and help me revise. Maybe 8-9/10?
Extracurriculars & Honors/Awards: A LOT lol Student government, Honor Society, Pre-Law Fraternity, Intern for a state senate candidate, Boys and Girls club volunteer, and many more.
I’m 100% positive that my personal statements and Extracurricular’s got me in. Also, I have worked full time throughout the entirety of my college career. I am more than positive UCLA took that into account when looking at my GPA.
Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD
Accepted: UCLA, UCSD, UCD
Rejected: N/A
Waiting: UCB
Fall 2017 Applicants advice: Make your personal statements as strong as possible, stay true to yourself throughout the process. Goodluck!
Does anyone else have to fill out the dependant verification form before they get to see their financial aid?
Hahahaha Thanks !
My financial aid is up. Even though it is about 3k more to attend ucla as compared to ucsb … Ucla would come out less expensive. They are awarding me with 20k in financial aid and thats not including 2k in the form of work-study. Exciting times man !!!
@vvMark I really like the transfer community housing. Its in a great location, the people have been really nice, and I liked that we were all new/figuring things out. However, dorms are noisy in general, so if you’re not up for that go with an apartment.
In regards to a second year of housing, we were supposed to find ‘something’ (I don’t even know what) in mid-March, but here we are mid-April and I’ve heard nada. It seems like most people go find an apartment for their second year, but I know some people who want to live on campus again.
@IcedFlavored I had the same philosophy going in to registration that I did at community college, which was “I might not get everything I really want, but I’ll probably get what I need”. So far I’ve had pretty good luck getting the schedules that I want, but it also depends on your major. My major (psych) is pretty large, so a ton of classes are offered every quarter.
Regarding difficulty, I think it really depends on your CC. I took lots of scholars/honors classes at SMC, and found them to be equal difficulty with some of my upper divisions at UCLA. Some of the SMC classes were even harder/more writing intensive. By far the biggest adjustment was getting use to the quarter system.
@forshevchenko I also was not offered any scholarships at time of acceptance, but over the summer found out I qualified for a grant for part of USHIP (health insurance) and also the middle class scholarship (about $450 a quarter). You might want to look into those, and also some scholarships you have to apply to (i.e the Alumni Scholarship, ~2k a year i think)
Also, I highly, HIGHLY reccomend you all attend Bruin Day. I had already SIR’ed and considered not going, but I had such a blast and it made me so excited to start in the Fall.
You probably got an email, but in case you missed it:
http://bruinday.ucla.edu/transfers
Maybe I’ll even see you there ;![]()
Congrats to everyone! We’re finally Bruins!
Is anyone else considering taking classes during the summer to get a head start/ get acclimated?
@Panorama14 I received the same as you. Since I’ll be commuting that should cover everything pretty well, right?
Do you know if they already reviewed everybody for for those scholarship opportunities they had us check off in the beginning of our applications? I was hoping I’d get a little scholarship. As a ten year returning student of Mexican decent, I thought I was a shoe in for a little something, haha.
@GirlPower1 I did, and I think it was a really good idea.
