@Panorama14 Communications and English are interchangeable in that with there is really no career path that you can pursue with one that can’t be pursued with the other. Likewise when it comes to graduate school. Ultimately, I would choose whichever school/city you prefer most. You will also always be able to take media/speech/rhetoric courses as electives or a minor regardless of where you attend. If UCLA is truly where you want to be, then just know that the fact that your degree says English rather than Communications will ultimately have no influence on your future career.
JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY:
did yal get a few emails from the Associate Vice Chancellor regarding Bruin Day and the medical school at UCLA, before you found out you were admitted? Cause i did and my friends who did not get admitted received no such emails!
For ex, i got this an hour or so before i heard back about my acceptance:
Dear Bruin Family,
Bruin Day 2016 was a resounding success! We simply could not have done it without you. On behalf of the Division of Enrollment Management, I want to express my deep appreciation for your tremendous support and response to Chancellor Block’s call to highlight the beauty and benefits of being a UCLA student. Your infectious Bruin pride, optimism and service captured the hearts of countless admitted students and their families. Thank you for rolling out the “blue carpet” for our guests! By all accounts, they enjoyed their visit and left excited about their future as part of the UCLA family.
BLAH BLAH BLAH
Thank you for making UCLA Bruin Day 2016 a true success!
Sincerely,
Youlonda Copeland-Morgan
Associate Vice Chancellor
Enrollment Management
@Oldhopeful we could always use more… But at the moment I am just excited to have the opportunity to be apart of the Bruin Family and to have been awarded any sort of aid. Best of luck to you my friend!
@TheVisionary thank you for your words brother. Having the opportunity to decided on a number of schools is a blessing and a challenge . Your advice will go a long way in helping me decided where I ultimately decide to go. Good luck to you by the way!
@Panorama14 UCSB, UCSD, UCD all accepted me as a comm major, but my dream school has always been UCLA and they offered me a full ride. If i do choose to accept UCLA, an offer that is so hard to turn down, I can still take comm classes and there is this entrepreneurship minor I’ve been eyeing. Maybe this opportunity is a way to broaden my horizons and make me more well rounded. The best advice someone gave me was to not be so closed minded even though I did not get my first choice major.
In regards to my future plans, I plan to now get my masters in comm and fulfill my dream of owning my own cafe. (Y’all can visit me when i do! )
But until Berkeley and USC come out, UCLA is most likely the path I am going to take.
As the @TheVisionary said, major does not equal career! If you really see yourself at UCLA and you love the school, I say go for it. Congratulations on all your acceptances and i wish you the best on this new chapter in your life
Hi everyone, I have got accepted to UCLA school of nursing for The Fall 2016. I’ve been living in the San Francisco Bay Area my entire life and am ecstatic about moving out! Will probably go to UCLA; Go Bruins!
@“Anh Swan” If it doesn’t affect your prerequisites or your IGETC, I wouldn’t be too worried and I don’t think it would affect your admissions. As long as you report your change I think you’ll be okay. Congrats!
I tried yesterday and today to go into my financial aid and scholarships but it continues to say it may take 2-3 days before I can view it. Does anyone know why? Is this happening to anyone else? Thx!
They’re still reviewing my application ~X( I’m so nervous! My gpa is 3.76 (for fall, im a first year transfer) for my major of Pre-Econ, but I’m TAP certified and I put Pre-History as my alternate. I only got one B but ugh I’m terrified.
I’m in a pickle because now I need to pick between going to UCI and saving a bunch of money, or going to UCLA and probably getting into a better program at the expense of losing all my savings and taking out loans
