This was my third year at community college, I’ve been working consistently about 20 hours/week while attending school full-time.
I’ll be receiving four AA’s from this college.
No involvement in any community college clubs or student government.

Congrats to all newly admitted Bruins! I see that many of you are struggling between choosing UCLA and another UC, and as a recent UCLA grad, i just want to offer my thoughts. Lots of people will tell you how great it is to take classes and spend 2-3 years at UCLA, and it’s mostly all true. But I just want to tell you about what you benefits of being a Bruin AFTER graduation.

You can get a good education at any UC, and for some majors, other UCs may even be better than UCLA. BUT once you graduate, the name recognition you get from UCLA is invaluable. Having UCLA on your resume is a conversation starter. Also, UCLA now let’s alumni keep their UCLA email addresses for life, without cost. That email address, lets perspective employers know where you went to school before they even see your resume. The caliber/ perceived caliber of your undergrad school will definitely improve your chances to get into a top notch grad program. Also if you ultimately attend grad school at a CSU or other school with no real recognition, you still have a UCLA degree to show off. It’s also more likely that you’ll get funding at a lower ranked grad program with a UCLA degree than you would with a degree from UCSC. UCLA also has a strong alumni network that can be beneficial if you utilize it. They also have numerous career fairs where there are top notch employers from all sectors- STEM, government, non-profit, financial services, etc.

Good luck to all of you!

A little late (found out on Friday) , but IM ACCEPTED!!

So happy & clearly shocked! Never thought I’d get into UCLA!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but I’m so happy I was accepted! I cried for a solid thirty minutes because I could not believe it. Here are my stats:

Admission Decision: ACCEPTED!!!
Overall GPA: 3.28
Major GPA: 4.0
Major Pre-reqs Completed (Y/N): Yes

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected (strengths/weaknesses): Miracle

Waiting: none

I still can’t believe it. I’ve been pulling my GPA up since academic renewal, found my love for science and philosophy, and I was crushed when I was rejected from UCSB because I thought for sure it meant I wouldn’t get into UCLA. But I did. I’ve been floating through this weekend.

Someone on the regents thread said they submitted 2 essays, did anyone else get 2 prompts? I only had 1 prompt and 1 spot for a LR

@Hungryforapples yea i wasn’t expecting a decision until May but i lurked last years forum and saw people started getting notified around the middle/ end of april. A couple of other people got their acceptance the same day as me. You will get an email saying your application has been updated and there will be a link in the application manager that leads to your letter. Some people get phone calls. Good luck i hope u have the option to choose between your top choices!!

Hi everyone, can someone help me out with housing options for this fall 2016? I posted a question on a new forum to avoid cluttering this thread. Any and all insight would be very very helpful!!!

And thank you in advance! GO BRUINS FALL 2016!!!

I was planning to commute too because I assumed it was cheaper. After giving it some thought I realized it isn’t any cheaper at all. In fact, it’s more expensive (in the long term).

Owning and maintaining a car isn’t cheap (insurance, registration, tickets, repairs, miscellaneous servicing, et cetera). Sitting in traffic wastes a lot of gas money too. Also, there is a tremendous opportunity cost to sitting in traffic for a minimum of two hours each day. That’s 8-10 hours a week.

That could easily be the difference between getting an A and a B in a class.

So I’m selling my car, buying a bicycle and living on campus instead. With the long term in mind, the wisest financial move is to live on campus.

Accepted

I’m a third year transfer and would just like to say to anyone who was rejected this year, do not be discouraged. I took my rejection last year and used it to motivate me as I was able to get a 4.0 in the Summer & Fall Semesters to boost my GPA by a total of .25 points. I think my acceptance was due largely to my personal statements, TAP certification, and upward grade trend.

@falltransfer1 Someone I know lives in LA and he told me he wakes up at 4am every morning for his morning classes.

@falltransfer1 What year and model is your car? i am looking for one lmao

I live on the westside so I’m so happy I got accepted - definitely going to help with my commute! I’m just worried that parking will be insane. Is the bus a better option?

@Cheolf I think we should be fine with dropping a major req course.
I just checked assist.org and it stated “You should complete as many preparation courses as possible prior to transfer, based on the availability of courses.”

I don’t know if that is of any help but I’ll call them tomorrow also and notify you with what they say to me.

I really hope they are ok with it because this professor is not communicating with me at all right now.

@psyphil12 Yeah, @UCLAFFF notified me of that as well. Funny how we’re the applicants and didn’t even notice that!

The first thing I did upon receiving my acceptance was send them an email notifying them of my schedule change. Hopefully that means they’ll get back to me sooner rather than later.

If you think you’ll receive a substandard grade, definitely drop the course in question. A “W” is far better than not passing. Do keep in mind that even a “C” would probably grant you safety.

I’ll let you know of anything I hear from UCLA regarding my situation ASAP.

I cannot be too confident in saying that dropping a pre req will prevent you from being rescinded.

This is one of the few things I do not have experience in knowing on what will happen to applicants in this situation. The best and only thing you can do at this point is wait it out. They should get back to you no later than this Friday.

So, prepare for a decision on your ‘W’ from UCLA and an admissions decision from Berkeley next week.

LOLOLOL.

Haha, this week will indeed be eventful. But yes, @psyphil12 if you can avoid dropping the course, then avoid it. Just don’t do it in favor of something more detrimental (“D” or “F”).

Failing that, there’s plenty of room over here in the neurotic corner. 8-X

Edit: if you don’t mind sharing, which course is it? I dropped symbolic logic, myself.

@Cheolf I know right! :))
Let’s just hope that we do get an “ok” about dropping the course because that would relieve a little stress off my shoulders.

I’m going to try to speak to the professor and explain the situation to him. He’s pretty much leaving our grades on the back burner & i’m not doing so well on the exams…so much for online courses now. I think I have a shot at getting at least a “C” on the course but I would rather drop the course, end the semester strong, & take the course at UCLA.

Thank you & i’ll let you know what happens with mine ASAP also!

I don’t mind at all. I’m planning on dropping History of Modern Philosophy.

If I SIR to UCLA right now, will my admissions to UC Berkeley be jeopardized?

After visiting both campuses, I am 99% sure I want to attend UCLA. But then again, It’d be nice to see an acceptance letter and packet from one of the world’s highest ranking universities.

SIRing prior to an admission decision has absolutely no effect on your admission status. It doesn’t effect your other acceptances, either.

Sorry to randomly pop in, but I saw “symbolic logic” and was compelled to post. I took a symbolic logic course when I applied to UCLA last year and my damn, that was a tough class. I have to give props to you philosophy majors for that one  I would be so lost in more advanced classes in that subject matter.
