FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@Cheolf have you contacted UCLA about dropping a course?

@luckie1367 - Do we need to have our IGETC certificate sent before June 1st of this year? I requested it but it says it takes up to 6 weeks to process :confused:

EDIT: I finished all my IGETC stuff this winter, so I suppose that means I have until July 1st…

EDIT (again): I revisited the UCLA site about what records to send in and it says we have until September 1st to submit IGETC certification. Phew.

@omex666 I sent them an email as soon as decisions were up on Friday. I’ll PM you when they respond.

@alicantekid Can i change from Applied Mathematics to Mathematics of Computation once i get there? the requirements for both majors prior to transfer are literally the same.

@KabirC Wait-listed for BizEcon as well!

Would I get rescinded if I received a grade of a “C” in a class that has nothing to do with my IGETC completion or my pre-req classes? I’m a pol sci major, but I took a Intro to Python class because UCI required it for some reason. I can definitely pass with a C, but just wondering if it could do further damage from what I know!

@by3000

I’m assuming the admission contract is the same for everyone. Mine says just not to get “two or more C’s” or “a C in a major prerequisite” so I think you’re good.

You should obviously still aim for higher, though, to prevent getting even lower.

@kamiture I’m in the same situation. I got accepted to UCLA but live right by UCI so will probably end up going there just to save thousands in the long run and leave with a bachelors degree debt free

Do any of you guys know any about the transfer housing situation? I’m really digging the idea of living in the university apartments, but there are so many buildings I don’t know where to start! I read online in a few places that some university apartments don’t have ACs and I don’t want to end up in an apartment without one!

I just want to be able to live with people close to my age (23-27) with a full kitchen and AC. Any suggestions on which uni apt to look further into?

When it says in my admission contract that I must maintain my grade point average does this mean if I happen to get two B’s and it drops by a few points that it will be taken away?

@Grinsley
No. Just don’t get more than one “C” or any D’s or F’s.

Actually the admission contract isn’t the same for everyone so please review it carefully. Once this Spring semester ends, and you learn your grades, if you don’t quite meet the contract, you should contact Admissions and report your grades. They may still accept you (I know this from friend’s experience) but then they do have the option to rescind. In some cases the admission contract may change as a result of your Spring grades – for example, they may ask that you take or re-take a course over the summer and might even specify to try to get a B or better.

Regarding IGETC certification, each CCC does this differently. You are to purchase the official transcripts and have them sent directly to UCLA, or you can order sealed copies and hand-deliver them. You are to also ask the CCC to send IGETC certification to UCLA. Some CCCs send it on the transcript, some don’t. Please call admissions to make sure they have received them!

Housing - you don’t have a choice, you get what you get. They will consider your age though, and will try to place you in one of your choices.

@Manda001 Did any of your stats change? I’m just scared of not getting accepted again

@Manda001 Wait, and by decline do you mean that you sent them an email to say that you didn’t plan on going there? I feel as if I should send an email. Or did you just let it be and not send them anything?

What are you guys planning to do for housing? I have a dog and I’m considering using my migraines as a way to get him certified as a support animal so university housing will let me keep him hmm

Also I didn’t get any financial aid either. I used their aid calculator after I got my award and it said I should get ~3k of grant aid (not a lot but hey its free) but I didn’t, is this something I should take up with a financial aid advisor? Also found out that my dad makes under the 80k cutoff for the Blue and Gold Plan, I doubt they’d let me switch my fafsa to him for this year to get the free tuition but I should be good for next year if I switch it to him from my mom (they were never married), right?

Do transfers get placed in their own residence hall?

Admission Decision: Accepted!
Overall GPA: 3.58
Major GPA: 4.0
Major Pre-reqs Completed (Y/N): Y
Major: Pre-Global Studies
TAP (Y/N): Y
IGETC (Complete/Incomplete): Complete
Accepted: UCLA, UCD, UCI, UCSD, CCNY
Wait-listed: None
Rejected: None
Waiting: UC Berkeley, NYU

For the most part, transfers are placed together. If not placed in transfer themed housing, there are floors of a few different dorms set aside just for transfers. But there have been posts where a transfer was paired with a soph.

@Cayton

“No. Just don’t get more than one “C” or any D’s or F’s.”

Hey, Cayton. What is your opinion on someone who may receive two C’s? Do you know what might happen to applicants with two C’s in their pre reqs if they’ve been admitted? I don’t know how to assess this, because from what I know, passing is passing and the school won’t really bother those who are in this boat, but you may have some insight that I do not.
