FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@dkarbcs Sure thing. I didn’t hear anything today. Hopefully I’ll hear this week. But it says “within 15 business days”. From what I’ve read, though, they typically get back to people in 3-5 days. Today was technically just the second.

@Edirol Haha, seriously. I remember checking off all those scholarship boxes in the beginning of the app. I saw that one asking if I was a returning student after a ten year absence and figured that was all me, how many more old folks can there be? I didn’t get any scholarships on my financial aid report though, so I guess there’s more than I thought, haha.

Check your junk mail. Mine was sitting in junk.

@intjer you should.

Guys if u barely have any EC’s should you bother to apply the alumni scholarships?

hey guys, does anyone know if it would be okay if I use one of UC application essays on the UCLA scholarship alumni application? One of them really fits good with the second prompt.

@SevenBlue7 Don’t. They’ll read over your UC application with your Alumni essay to make their decision, and it might make them think that you’re lazy. Best case scenario, they’d just have less information on you as you would’ve missed an ample opportunity to write more about yourself.

I would love to get some input from some fellow CS/Engineering majors that got accepted/rejected from UCLA.

Did you complete all of the math classes? (Calc 1-3, Linear Algebra & Differential equations)
Did you complete the physics classes?
Did you complete the gen ed class?
Did you have TAP/TAG?
What was your GPA?

I’m a freshman in CC right now and I would love to go to UCLA but I don’t want to waste my time taking classes I don’t need to take / hurt my GPA taking any classes I don’t have to. Thanks!

@Twenmi I major in mechanical engineering and my brother is computer science and engineering. We both got accepted.
Did you complete all of the math classes?
-we are taking the last math-differential equation, right now.
Did you complete the physics classes?
-yes
Did you complete the gen ed class?
-we completed IGETC but I heard it was not necessary.
Did you have TAP/TAG?
-You can’t TAP with Engineering major, but I completed 4 honor classes anyways.
What was your GPA?
-both have a 4.0, GPA is REALLY important to UCLA engineering emission.

@solostish then what’s the point of restating your ec’s, volunteer work,and awards? They’re gonna be the same. Like they can just look at the UC application and ask for a letter or req and essays.

@BigPanda First of all congrats to you and your brother! Thanks for the reply, so do you think the Honors classes are worth it since I can’t even TAP and it could possibly jeopardize my GPA (I currently have a 4.0)? Any tips?

@Twenmi They are not worth it. Keep your 4.0 you are pretty much in.

@BigPanda Ah thanks, I might end up taking a few just to keep my priority registration but I’ll focus on keeping my 4.0. How long did it take you and your brother to transfer?

@Twenmi we took 3 years. but if you dont plan to finish igetc and work a bit harder, you might get it down to 2. But becareful, I think a three years transfer with a 4.0 is definitely better than a 2 year with 3.87

@Twenmi

Did you complete all of the math classes? (Calc 1-3, Linear Algebra & Differential equations)
Yes
Did you complete the physics classes?
Yes
Did you complete the gen ed class?
Yes
Did you have TAP/TAG?
I was in the TAP but didn’t complete prereqs
What was your GPA?
4.0 for UCLA CSE.

@twenmi you need to complete all the courses to have even a chance.

I got two Ds but repeated with As. Will that hurt my application next year?

@jw77777 you are fine

@jw77777 two Ds are bad, but then you showed signs of improvements, which universities like. Im not sure about the rules on how many Ds can be repeated though, if there are any.

My acceptance page changed to this paragraph:

“We received your recent communication regarding changes to your academic information and are currently reviewing your record. Upon completion, we will contact you to inform you of any status changes.”

I’ll keep those who are interested in the outcome posted!
