Don’t forget that the AAP even is next Saturday, along with Bruin Day! I recommend for those of you who have made your mind up on this school to sign up for TSP!
Congratulations on not getting rescinded! How many business days did it take for them to notify you? I feel like this would be good info for future applicants to know.
Is it worth it to drive down and visit the campus? I’m trying to decide between UCD, UCB and UCLA, but I live in San Jose so I’m looking at about a 5 hour drive or a plane ticket.
@daveUC it’s not easy to quantify. It could affect you a lot. You would have to take those courses once you transfer, which could put you back a quarter or two, when you should be taking upper division courses for your last 2 years. Also consider that if you didn’t take the Physics courses until after transfer, you are looking at 150-200 students per lecture plus a discussion class.
Bottom line is, you are a more competitive applicant if you complete all your major prereqs and IGETC if that applies. TAP will help but again, it could be that for two TAP applicants for the same major, the one who was better prepared should have an edge.
@UCLAFFF Thanks! It took 7 business days for me to be notified. I sent the course change on April 22 and heard back on May 3.
Does anybody with the pre majors know how they work? I know I have one more prerequisite that I need to take at UCLA before I can officially declare my major, so does that mean I can’t take any upper division classes until after that class is completed? If that’s the case, do I just take a couple other random classes to fill my course load?
Dropping classes to prevent getting B’s isn’t a good habit to get into. While a W looks much better than a C, a B looks much better than a W. That W could hurt you quite a bit if you change your mind and decide you want to study biology in graduate school, whereas the B would likely be forgiven.
@insolus I also live in the SJ area but I have already made up my mind about going to UCLA so I don’t really see the point in driving all the way there for Bruin Day. However, if you are on the fence about all 3 schools, I would suggest you go so that you can get a feel for the school and hopefully it will make it easier to make a decision
@falltransfer1 and @Happy2Help , thank you for the info. I understand that receiving a B is better than receiving a W. However, I think this class is getting in the way of my organic chem course and I may receive a B in both classes rather than receiving an A in organic chem and a W from biology 101. Organic chemistry is very important class as a chem major. Also, I no longer need to take biology so I hope this justifies my withdrawal from my biology course. if I do drop, this will be my only W so far.
Does anyone know how to verify that UCLA received IGETC certification? I think someone mentioned this earlier but I can’t seem to find it.
(I had my IGETC sent from my CCC a couple of weeks ago).
Upper division courses are what determine whether or not you can declare the major. At least that’s how it is for psychology.
Going from pre-major to major status is usually based on performance in those two or three upper division courses that you are expected to take in your first or second quarter. Whether or not you can take upper divisions beyond that I am not sure.
Shouldn’t be a big deal if you cannot because many people go for a minor anyway, so you could get started on that.
Hi guys! sorry for my poor english reading skills but I came across my admission contract and there was a section that mentions that i need complete “four (4) transferable courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and physical and biological sciences.”
Is it telling me to complete four (4) courses in arts and humanities AND complete four (4) courses in social and behavioral sciences
or
Is it telling me that I could complete four (4) courses by taking three (3) classes in arts and humanities AND one (1) course in social and behavior sciences?
thank you in advance and sorry for the inconvenience ><
@Oldhopeful
I think it varies by major. I was a Sociology major and came in as Pre. I had to take 1 lower division prerequisite before I could declare. Most people were missing that class because it isn’t offered at most CCCs. I just needed to pass the class with a C in order to declare the major. But in no way was I prevented from taking any other upper division courses. But if the missing courses were prerequisites for some upper division courses then that might be different.
@2016Candles ok, interesting. Thank you. I’m pre history and I only have one prerequisite class left, intro to historical practice, that wasn’t offered at CC. I wasn’t sure if I’d be stuck getting that one out of the way before I could start taking upper division classes for the major.
Anybody know when people who received regents will be notified?
Is the transfer dorm experience worth it? Because I’ve heard good things but I’ve also heard that the age range is crazy like there are older students. I’m 22 and want a the “college experience” but I don’t want to room with some crazy 18 year or someone in there thirties who is in a completely different place in there life. I just don’t know what to do about housing and it’s stressing me out!!
@Edirol MyUCLA > Academics > Degree Progress/Audit Report > run a DAR
I should show up under “general education exemption status”
@luckie1367 Thank you!!
If your IGETC is not yet on DAR, it should be on DAR right around your orientation day.
^ Yep! It takes a REALLY long time for it to get on there, so don’t panic if you don’t see it right away.
