FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Officially declining my admission today, good luck to those on the wait list!

So im going to fail a pre-req course. Where do i updated my class on the portal? Im scared out of my life, I will probably get my admission rescinded. Can anyone give me advice?

@Panorama14
What type of advice are you looking for? Obviously you’ll do whatever you can to not fail the class, but if you don’t pass, all you can do is update the portal. UCLA likely won’t allow you to make it up over summer. You can try to explain why you failed… I’m not sure that will hold much weight though.

@themightybicycle Ultimately I abided by moderation. UCLA is far enough from home that I will be able to enjoy the college experience, whilst at the same time not being too far away to prevent me from visiting my family and girlfriend. My aspiration is to go to law school, meaning that if I chose Berkeley I’d be looking at potentially five years away from home.

There is little difference in academics between the two institutions. I will have all my pre-reqs done for UCLA, whereas at Berkeley I’d need to complete a few.

I like the area around UCLA more. UCLA guarantees one year of housing, whereas Berkeley does not. I also get the vibe that UCLA is more transfer-friendly (though Berkeley does have a transfer center!).

One of the main things that was holding me back from UCLA is that they start a month later. On the bright side, my summer break will be quite long.

Good luck in making a decision. Just remember you can’t go wrong either way.

Keep us posted on your decision-making!

on MyUCLA, I got a checkmark next to the transcript. I havent seen the pending sign. Does this mean they reviewed my transcript, or will it go to pending after the checkmark?

@boxlover mine never had a check mark before pending, but it’s been pending now for the last couple weeks.

@Oldhopeful Thats odd… I wonder if there are anyone else in this forum with the same situation

@boxlover I dunno, I’m jealous yours has been processed. I keep waiting for them to tell me my acceptance was a fluke mistake and this ever-pending transcript isn’t helping that anxiety, haha.

Hello everyone. Long time cc reader, first time posting… I wanted to see if there is a way to check the status of your transcript you’ve submitted if you haven’t SIR’d yet?

@Oldhopeful - One of my received checkmarks is now gone, so I’m definitely with you on the anxiety front. I’m not sure if I should have that particular transcript resent? I’m too scared to call because I’m sure they’ll tell me they have no idea who I am, how I got accepted, and that it was all a mistake :frowning:

Hi @mcdrx2, I’m struggling with my freshman year of college right now.
I have a total of 3 C’s on my report card, and I’m scared of how that’ll hurt my chances of transferring to another UC school. I know that I’m doing better this quarter (I won’t get another C), and I’m going to continue to do better this summer and next year.
So, I was wondering about how you’re doing and if you know anyone who’s in a similar position to you or me.

Hi @ttop220, I want to transfer into another UC school. :slight_smile:

@Edirol yours went from pending to received to not received? That is pretty strange. Does it say anything about needing a final transcript or anything like that?

@Cheolf I’ve been literally thinking the exact same things that you listed. That is why I’m choosing to SIR to UCLA :slight_smile: it’s just been hard to turn down Berkeley, but like you said: they are the same in terms of prestige so it’s a matter of choosing what’s better for you O:-)

So I’m taking my last 4 classes at a cc. I got in to UCLA with a 3.3 (I know right) for a history major. I’m doing the most I can to avoid this happening, but worse case scenario I might get two C’s and two A’s. I think when I did the calculator it only moved my overall GPA down to like 3.2 (I have a ton of units). Do you think I will be rescinded??? I get my GPA won’t move that much and will be above the 3.0 minimum, but that 2.8 semester GPA is a little bit of a drop

Hi @jg62356,
I was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to approach the essay portion of the transfer application since I have a low GPA and am struggling to increase my GPA. I’d appreciate your help.

@jg62356

I have been doing some research on this whole rescinded issue, as a lot of transfers have asked me this question during Bruin Day. I went ahead and talked to a few admissions officers (I am a student ambassador on campus, so I can ask these kind of questions).

To sum things up, the school has already accepted you and wants you to be there for whatever their reasons are. if you have to report poor grades, it’s not a situation in which the admissions officer will say, “Oh, he got a C. Sorry, you’re done”. It takes a lot for them to cancel your admission, and receiving C’s is not likely to result in that. If ANYTHING, you will receive a new provisional letter that asks you to retake the course at UCLA and receive a better grade.

What you also want to consider is the courses you are receiving a C in. Are they major prep? If not, do not worry. Are they in major prep? You should worry, but not worry about the worst case scenario because that is highly unlikely to happen.

As “proof” @Cheolf received a ‘W’ in his major prep (I believe it was major prep), reported it to UCLA and they told him that his admissions decisions still holds. So, do not worry too much about the situation you are in.

Yes, it was a major prep course.

@themightybicycle It was indeed tough! But as someone I know who attended UCLA many years ago said, “Getting accepted to Berkeley is great. Turning them down feels even better.”

:-bd

@UCLAFFF thank you!!! And both classes in the C danger range are my critical thinking english and a major prep class, although I’m very confident I’ll end with a B, but still worse case scenario will be those two C’s. This gives me hope lol still going to try hardest to avoid any of this and raise the grades, but this puts me at ease. The teacher for my major prep course is just an extremely hard grader

@comphy I PM’d you
