I find it somewhat odd that housing will be releasing CAR request notifications on a Saturday. Unless “by July 30th” inherently means something else, I am going to be checking my email with perpetual agitation all day long.

This is the tweet from ucla housing, but you’re right. This is ridiculous! No one in housing is on the same page!!! Their student services are kinda lame, and are putting a damper on the whole “UCLA is so amazing” thing!
Does anyone know how to check and see if our immunizations have been approved?
@xenoplanet It takes some time for the immunizations to appear as approved (when I completed the forms, it took a few weeks or more).
You can check the “Ashe Secure Portal” for updates on the approval of immunizations
After logging in, you can either check out “Forms” or “Immunizations”. When your immunizations are approved, clicking on “Forms” will show “Completed:” next to “Immunization Compliance/Health Clearance”. Also, clicking on “immunizations” will show something like “Compliant with Standard Requirements” for each of the different vaccines.
@Cheolf Thank you for the comforting words. Yeah, I hope to add to my resume while at UCLA. UCLA’s been emailing Poli Sci transfers with info on internships, and I’ve already started one of them with a neighboring state’s US Senator. I’m already feeling the benefits of UCLA, really glad to have made the decision.
I was talking with a Poli Sci transfer who just graduated from UCLA and he says that besides law school, it’s really hard to start anywhere with Poli Sci (besides general places that just want degrees). Anecdotal, though, but it still started some anxiety. Hopefully, he was exaggerating. I’m sure that if I work hard, I won’t be really limited either way. And yeah, much like yourself, I’m interested in going to law school.
Yeah, I’m the first year transfer
And that’s very true, no point in worrying about things I can’t control. Already going to UCLA, no point in being nervous. I guess instead of being nervous, I should really just make sure I walk into UCLA with the right state of mind. Gotta make sure I don’t slack off.
I’m actually taking 4 classes this quarter. I’m trying to get out of UCLA in a year (if I take 16 units a quarter, I’ll be out by the Spring because of how my APs worked out). I know I probably shouldn’t rush, but college is so expensive, and I’ve always been better at sprinting than jogging, if you know what I’m saying. I figure instead of spending a second year on another minor, I should travel instead. I’d probably learn more staying at hostels in random countries and seeing crazy stuff, given that I’d be set for a degree either way. Might as well spend $20,000 travelling than $30,000 at school (if I’d have my degree either way). Who knows, I might be making a terrible decision. I just know that I probably shouldn’t be in school that long, that I should take a break before law school, and that I probably shouldn’t take the LSAT at 18-years-old (some of my friends are still in high school…).
@solostish
I’m not saying it’s impossible to graduate in a year after transferring- I did it. BUT I also transferred in with 27 quarter unit of upper division classes. Neither AP credits, nor CC classes can get you upper division course units. You need at least 60 upper division units to graduate-- that’s about 15 classes. Assuming you didn’t have any lower division requirements to fulfill, it would take you at least 4 quarters just to take 60 upper division units. If you still have lower division requirements to fulfill, then that will add additional courses.
@solostish I don’t know if you’ve gone to orientation or not yet, but the student advisors would not let anyone take more than 3 classes for Fall. They said they would drop you out of your courses if you signed up for more than 3 during registration time. Just a heads up
^^^ FYI you can only sign up for 3 classes during orientation but you can add another during open registration.
Just called housing, now they said they are trying to get them out this week or next week. It sounds like they have no idea when they are going to come out so they just keep giving vague answers
@commgirl2016 TBH it is not likely that they will change your assignment. I suggest you also check your BruinBill to see if any housing credits or charges were made to reflect a change in your assignment.
@Happy2Help Thank you, it looks like no changes have been made. Is there anything I can do in order to switch with someone who wants to be a part of the Transfer Experience housing?
@commgirl2016 As for your request for a single, I can tell you from experience that without a valid medical reason, it’s quite difficult to exchange into a single.
Check out the different Facebook pages for transfers:

Anybody hear back on parking pass applications? I know that they’re supposed to start emailing people today. If you are not approved, do you receive an email letting you know you won’t be getting one? Or do you only get notified if you were approved?
hey guys,
I am currently going to enroll into my first year at a ccc and i am interested in transferring to UCLA as a business major. I am interested in majoring in market management. However, UCLA only offers business economics. Does this mean I cannot go into marketing at UCLA? My counselor told me that I would have to take on marketing internships to get into a marketing program there. Is this true? hope anyone can help! I really don’t want to end up wasting my money or time if I can’t transfer to UCLA as a marketing major
Also, with the math I placed into, I will be finishing calc 2 class spring semester of my last year. I know that UCLA wants all your major requirements done prior applying. Will I be okay if I’m still working on Calc 2 my last semester? or will that hurt my chances of getting in?
@commgirl2016 @Happy2Help Someone on the UCLA Transfer Facebook page claimed they called Housing and was told that ALL CAR’s were denied. Denial emails will supposedly be rolling out soon. If this is true, why even have the system in the first place? I understand the increase in CAR submissions might have caused some problems for Housing, but does it really take 2 whole months to determine that you couldn’t fulfill a single request? Something smells fishy here.
Maybe it also had to do with the housing lottery they hold for other students. CAR most likely depends on available space.
This is someone’s post from the UCLA Transfer Students Facebook group (search “lottery” to find this post). This person posted what she heard from someone in housing.
Interesting about all CARs being denied. IIRC there is a roommate switching event after move in.
I read that post as well, but I still see two problems with this outcome:
-
Housing offers were accepted on June 1st. Given that, it shouldn’t have taken 2 months for housing to realize that they were short on space. The fact that ALL CAR’s were denied (again, supposedly) indicates that there was simply no wiggle room for changes. Since CAR is executed on a case-by-case basis, the number of CAR requests shouldn’t have mattered.
-
Since housing IS guaranteed for first-year transfers and NOT for other returning students, I don’t see why the CAR system should be dependent on the lottery in any way. CAR is a system in which first-year students who have already accepted their housing offers are given the opportunity to request a switch into another type of room if a vacancy or exchange match appears.
@boyofrito @Happy2Help UCLA Housing is seriously the worst student services office ever, coming from community college I figured it would be way better! Now I’m sad to be leaving my small school where the staff is actually on their game and care. I called housing today and they said they were releasing acceptances and denials on Friday, so depending on the time of day you call and the person you speak to, it seems like you can get 20 different answers to the same question!!! AAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!! There is no reason for the CARs to take this long or be this complicated. Why wait this long to tell us all no???
