Somebody got into UCLA as a Philosophy major last year on here with a 3.14, I think. You have a good shot, you’re within the percentile range, and having all prerequisites completed will make you competitive.
I transferred to this school in Fall of 2014 and am finishing up my last two quarters! I was accepted to UCLA with a 3.0 GPA. I was shocked when I got accepted, but here I am now! I am very proud to be apart of the bruin community! If anyone has any questions about this amazing school and the admissions process, I am here to help! I am also a student ambassador on campus, so I know a thing or two about admissions. I am physci major, btw!
Another Philosophy transfer here! I have also applied to UCSB and would be so pleased to attend either school. I’ve toured both campuses and they’re both beautiful! I will say that I’m hoping for UCLA because it has always been my dream, but ultimately attending a four-year university is my dream. I’m the first person in my family to attend college so navigating this undergrad process has been interesting to say the least.
It will be interesting to see what happens because I have a far from perfect transcript. I worked my way out of a really disappointing start (academic probation bad) and have brought my GPA up to 3.28. All my philosophy courses have been As, and I’ll be done with the IGETC this semester. Fingers crossed!
Us philosophy majors seem well on our way to dominating this sub-forum =D>
@sevensparrows Good luck! That’s quite an impressive upward trend. I’ve yet to visit any of the campuses. I’m waiting for my decisions, which I suppose can be good or bad. I just don’t want my heart set on anything only to not have that path presented to me! I applied to UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, and UC Berkeley.
All the philosophy majors here are welcome to seek me out for help and stuff, since I’m about to graduate from UCLA in about 7 months with a degree in this field…just sayin’
@sevensparrows
There’s three elective philosophy classes you take for the major at UCLA, and 13 total required classes at the upper-division. So there’s quite a bit of room for work inside the major and outside of it if you want.
will making changes to your TAU now impact your admission?
i submitted back in January, but i went back today and changed the department name of a course, not the units or the class itself
@birdbirdbird Same - by the way, I’ve always thought Cognitive Science to be an incredibly interesting major. The CogSci majors who I have talked to seem to love it - I met somebody who graduated as a CogSci major, and is currently working in Data Science. It’s cool that such a, for lack of a better word, cool major is practical as well (with the required CS knowledge particularly).
