FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

I tried looking it up, what is regents? Thanks in advance @goldencub

Never mind, found a scholarship to UCs under that name. thank you @goldencub xx

lol yea you need to chill and just wait for your acceptance. You’re like the poster child for what colleges look for…I think you probably know that.

I got an email from UCLA requesting unofficial transcripts from my current school. Isn’t that a little odd to ask now?

@stepbrotherbear Not at all; we’re still a month away from decisions. It means they’re reviewing your application and would like to verify something.

Hey everyone! Would you mind chancing me?

Major: Statistics
GPA: 3.8
IGETC: Completed by spring
Pre-req: Yes (although my C++ course was not articulated)
TAG: TAP for UCLA, TAG for Davis
Personal Statements: Fairly good, 8-9/10
Applied: UCLA, Cal, UCSD, UCSB, Davis, Cal Poly SLO
Admitted: Cal Poly SLO

I took the C++ course at one of my district’s colleges, but it turns out that it was the only school here that didn’t send the course out for articulation. I hope it’s not too big of a deal.

Hi all, I was accepted as a transfer last year for fall 2015. If any of you have any questions at all, feel free to ask! I know exactly how anxiety-filled March and April is, so I’m here to offer any sort of peace of mind!

@bnnguyen Thanks! Appreciate it :slight_smile:

@bnnguyen what major did you transfer as and what was your gpa for it? were you tap?

@CATransfer2016 Of course!

@anxiousmac I transferred as a sociology major with a 3.5 GPA.

@bnnguyen woah, really? but i thought sociology was an impacted major! congrats! did you have anything exceptionally special though?

Honestly, I transferred here last fall thinking I had no shot of getting in here. My GPA was below a 3.5, but I also got into my alternate major and not my first choice major. I feel like admissions look for certain qualities in the transfer cohort that they admit that you will never know, nor understand why you got in or rejected. Try not to be too anxious and just wait for decisions to come out! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. :slight_smile:

Btw, if you do get in under your alternate, there is a chance that you can change or double-major once you start the fall quarter. It is not completely impossible for some impacted majors.

Can someone chance me.

with tap just about done. As of the fall my gpa was 3.76 (first year transfer) do you think I could still get into even though is a bit low for major? Also getting nervous because only B in critical thinking and if that’s considered prereq it lowers

@bnnguyen Ah I guess part of my comment didn’t show up, I’m applying as an Econ major and I’ve gotten an A in micro (intersession) and calc 1 and calc 2 is in profess, macro is good because I got a 4 on the ap test. I put prehistory as my alternate but I really want to get into Econ

You’ll get in, @grimmghost. Trust me.

So now that we’re in the final stretch I’m getting nervously pessimistic about my chances. I would love to hear some outside opinions on my situation.

I returned to school after a ten year hiatus. My transcripts start in the early 2000’s and they’re horrible. There’s three C’s, several F’s, some W’s. A few F’s were renewed and a few I retook in my return. Fast forward to my transcripts since 2013 and I have straight A’s with the exception of a B in a summer course. I’ve done the majority of my coursework since my return and have been on the Dean’s and President’s honors each semester. My overall GPA is 3.77, though that includes a couple math courses that won’t transfer. Oh, my intended major is history.

I feel like I should have focused more attention on why I left school in my personal statement and that’s what has me feeling a little anxious. I basically went into how I wasn’t succeeding and needed to step away to figure out my path, then life sort of took off on me. I focused more on the accomplishment angle with my my decision to return, the anxiety I had going in, and my success since. I’m just doubting my choice now.

What are everyone’s thoughts on my transcripts? Will they be a little forgiving of my early years? Also, what about my statement’s lack of detail in regards to my time away?

@Oldhopeful I definitely understand where you’re coming from with the sudden pessimism. Especially since we are less than 6 weeks away from decisions. I’m trying to keep my mind as busy as possible as to not dwell on the waiting.

I do strongly feel you have a great chance. The upward trend since your return to school would be looked favorably upon, and I think you made the right choice by mentioning in your statements your accomplishments and your choice to return to school. If the lack of detail in your gap was truly a concern to them, they would have asked you to explain it further. Because they didn’t, makes me think that you gave them enough to go off on.

@sugarbabies3 Thanks for your input. The wait is a killer, isn’t it? I think the fact that I’ve long heard back from all the other schools I’ve applied, which is pretty much all the L.A. area Cal States, makes it worse. I was accepted to all those, but instead of thinking that I’m on a hot streak, I’m thinking that a rejection has to come eventually.

I wasn’t aware that they send those supplemental questions to transfer students? Is that true? I monitor these boards somewhat regularly, and I only seemed to notice freshman applicants getting them.

@Oldhopeful Yes it’s aweful, my husband’s in an impacted major which sucks. He was denied from Calpoly SLO, but a rep told me they only had 30 slots and over 6,000 applicants. His goal is a UC anyway. I have the upmost confidence in him and his stats, but it’s still nerve-wrecking.

Yep I’ve read transfers getting questioned for gaps and asked for unofficial transcripts from UCB, UCSD, and UCD so far.
