@Cheolf Wait, you ended up dropping a prereq this semester? Uh oh.
@ElevatedThinking Yes. Taking six courses with work isn’t the best of ideas (though certainly has been accomplished by many people). I’m not too concerned though. I already have UCI and UCSB, who have approved of the course change. There are many worse things than a UCLA rejection. I’m fortunate to be gifted with acceptances.
Perhaps my GPA and the non-impacted nature of philosophy will spare me. Either way, any result is of my own doing, which I accept. You’ll see no finger-pointing from me.
With my goals, attending a school such as UCI over UCLA would mean very little.
@Cheolf Was this prereq class only required by UCLA and not Irvine/SB?
@Cheolf Philosophy is a non-impacted major at UCLA? I never knew that
@ElevatedThinking UCI does not require pre-requisites for philosophy, but it is articulated as one of their courses that you would eventually need to take. Same deal with UCSB.
Is Neuroscience an impacted major in UCB, UCSD, UCD, UCLA>???
“Thank you for your interest in UCLA! Not having completed a recommended course can make you a less competitive applicant. However, it also depends on how competitive the applicants for that major are. Take in mind that if a lot of students applying with a Statistics major complete this class, then yes that will certainly make you less competitive. It is highly impossible to tell you for certainty the consequences of not take the course will bring to your application.”
I didn’t have C++ programming complete because my community college require completion of C programming prior to take the course. ( I am currently taking C programming )
Even though Statistics is not a selective major, missing one course can be a great deal when my GPA is only at 3.61.
Regardless, not getting accepted by UCLA is not the end of the world.
You got the decision? @IcedFlavored
@diuneilomo No. I asked UCLA whether not having a recommended course completed will jeopardize my chance.
Am I the only one who isn’t extremely anxious? I thought I’d be freaking out by now - but I have a number of things to do, so I don’t really have the time to worry about UCLA. Next week, Berkeley’s decisions come out… I’ll be neurotic as hell next week. But I’m oddly calm about UCLA’s decisions being released this week.
@goldencub same here, Berkeley will be the big thing
@goldencub me too. Anxiety is meaningless, just be relaxed.
I’m not so much anymore. It’s tiring. The anxiety was real last week and it made me exhausted. I had to give a presentation this morning and I was nervous about that and I realized it was nice to be anxious about something else other than admissions for once.
I was perfectly calm before I needed to drop a class :-t
What I find peculiar is that I’ve been searching Google for a few days now, and not once have I came across an anecdote of someone getting rescinded in a case that’s similar to mine.
Next week will certainly be interesting for me. Berkeley decisions will be released and perhaps UCLA will get back to me on whether they have rescinded me or not, if I’m accepted this Friday.
It will be a fun ride.
Everyone has their own story, and I always think there’s no story worst than mine, but who knows? people come from all walks of life: Hold on, everyone
Does ucla release all at once?
@“Danny Soprano” Basically. They release pretty much every decision but some people get a message that their app is still being reviewed, but its just a few people.
@diuneilomo you will get into UCD, for sure… San Diego I’m like 99 % sure. UCLA - 85 percent, Berkeley, 75.
It might not even be this friday. There were some people here that called last week and reported that admissions officers said 2 weeks (so the 29th). wouldnt be surprised because of many applicants they have to go through too.
@intjer I am just frustrated about 1) Ochem 2) Out of state
I wonder if out of state students are really really competitive…
