FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Does anyone know if History is still impacted? An academic counselor told me it is but according to the transfer profile, in 2014 history has an asterisk and in the 2015 profile, it no longer does.

Regents Candidate here.

So yeah, outta 22,000, 600 people get the email. But how many people, of these 600, do you think actually go out and get a LOR and answer the prompt? We were given ~10 days to complete it. And I’m sure a few people will wait until the last minute, so they can hear back from UCLA before even submitting the app (making theirs look a bit hasty).

@sbccstudent19 I saw another post where someone said it was not. Also, assist.org does not list it as a highly selective major either. Seems like we might be in luck this year, assuming you’re a fellow history major applicant.

@sbccstudent19 everything ive seen indicates that it’s not impacted, and the UCLA rep for my school told me it isn’t as well!

is it a must that, for out of state students, UC will send you an email asking for the syllabi of courses in my out of state university/college? If I didn’t receive that email does that mean I’m rejected>

Hey guys,
I think I made a mistake on my application… Does anyone know if that may affect my admission decision?
I answered “Yes” for the following question:
“Certified for completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)?”
I thought that, if I will have it completed before I start attending UCLA, I should have said “Yes”. Now I am afraid that it actually means that I had IGETC completed by the time I applied, for which the answer would be “No”. I tried to contact UCLA but never received a response…

@goldencub golden where did you get these info about regents?

@imgonnagetin I did the same thing. No worries.

What do you guys think my shot at acceptance is…

-California community college student
-4.0 GPA with over 80 credits (I was an aerospace engineer major and switched to business economics last minute so this is why I have so many credits)
-EC’s are somewhat lacking, however I actively participated in honors club, and was involved in mesa, as well as FBLA. (Explanation for why they are lacking below)
-I only took 12-15 units a semester, usually on the lower side. This was due to my mom being sick with cancer, and considering my parents are divorced, I was the only one living with her. Because of this, I spent an enormous amount of time taking care of her. Her health was very unstable, and at a moments notice could take a turn for the worse. Whether it was vomiting blood from stomach ulcers, severe fever, passing out, swelling from her liver beginning to fail, blood clots, I could go on and on…what I’m getting at is that I had to spend A LOT of time with her in case something went wrong. I was the one to drive her to doctors appointments, make her food, bring her medication, and be there to make the end of her life as bearable as possible. She was miserable, and I was her entire world, so it was my job to be there for her night and day and make her as happy as I possibly could. This is also why my extra curricular a were lacking.
-Another reason for my lacking EC’s is because I was in the process of starting a business. Unfortunately at the time of application, all I could truthfully say was that I was working on starting a business, however it was still a work in progress. Shortly after applying everything took off, and I’m now officially in business. After being incorporated for about three months, I’ve gotten my product into 20 stores (who are consistently reordering), with many more stores that I’m working out deals with. I’m also working out a few worldwide distribution deals. Would’ve been nice to have been able to mention all that, but oh well.
-My personal statement was what I believe to be fairly strong. It was read over by a ucla representative involved in the transfer process and they said it was very strong, so hopefully they weren’t just being nice. Anyways, the statement discussed how I used to be a mediocre high school student lacking the drive one needs for success. I didn’t apply myself, and consequently, my grades reflected this. Just after graduating high school, my mom was diagnosed with cholangeocarcinoma, and was given a prognosis of six months. I was devastated, but realized all I could do was show my mom that I have what it takes to succeed. I turned my life around, and made my schooling a priority. I wanted her to pass away knowing I would go on to make something of myself. Thankfully, I was given almost two years with her, and she was able to see me transform from a careless high school student, into a dedicated college student with many goals and aspirations. Obviously much more content and thought went into the essay, but this was just a brief summary of the key points.

So…what do you guys think. Do I have a shot? I’m worried my lacking EC’s, as well as a lower course load is going to hinder my chances. I noted within my application that these weaknesses derived from the fact that I was fulfilling my obligation as the caretaker of my dying mother, just as any child should do in this situation. If I’m rejected acceptance because of these weaknesses, then so be it. Not in a million years would I have left my mom’s side in favor of partaking in more extra curriculars and a heavier course load.

Forgot to mention a few things. I have all pre reqs completed, except for my last one which is in progress. It will be easily completed with an A considering I have well over 100 percent in the class as of right now.

I took one honors course, which I’m not assuming will help at all being that it was only one course, but figured I’d include that as well.

I also worked throughout college. I held the same job, working part time during the spring and fall sessions, and full time during summer and winter. This also took away time from EC’s.

@Oldhopeful - That’s good news. I applied as a sociology major (really impacted) but history is my alternative major. I would really happy to get accepted with either. How are your stats?
@kakarikos - Awesome, thank you for the reply.

Has it been confirmed yet that the decision will be all out on this Friday?

Some are saying it won’t be this friday, but I think there’s a good chance since it’s always been a week before Berk

@sbccstudent19 My stats are ok for the major. I have a 3.7-3.8, but I have a ten year gap with something like a 3.95 since returning. My essays were pretty good. I think in retrospect I could have probably explained my time away and my reasons for leaving better though. EC’s are meh. I feel like my odds are maybe a little better than 50/50.

@Oldhopeful - After ten years of being away, I bet you are a competitive applicant despite your essays, which I am sure are good, and your EC. I have a 3.75 so I would probably say my odds are similar. Good luck and hope we both get in!

@sbccstudent19 good luck to you! Hopefully we find out Friday, the wait is killer.

2 days…

or 9 days…

Does anybody know if UCLA has EVER released decisions the same day as Berkeley?

It has been confirmed multiple times, from both UCLA sources and CC counselors, that decisions are out on the 22nd.
