FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

REGENTS THREAD: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1884554-ucla-regents-2016-transfer-thread.html?new=1

@calivalleyyy You can do it! And yeah, I was wondering about the same thing w Friday.

My prof just gave me my letter of rec and I’m stunned. What I really don’t like is that the prompt is limited to 300 words. I’m supposed to talk about my future and how I hope to benefit society in 2/3ds of a page?

@calivalleyyy For 2011, I assumed that’s what happened. An invitation to Regent’s pretty much means that you are accepted, presuming that your EC’s and personal statements were not subpar. Keep in mind that GPA accounts for 90%+ of your admission decision for transfer students. Not all Regent qualifiers will receive the actual scholarship, but most of them will get accepted. Hence, it doesn’t really matter that the application is due 2 days after the announcement day.

@JapanUC Good thing “22th” is not an actual date, then. Nice try though.

@calivalleyyy Congratulations on receiving Regent’s! You are most likely in (or pretty much guaranteed in if your major is non-impacted). Don’t overthink this – the most sensible solution would have been for UCLA to announce the Regent’s invitation AFTER the announcements are out. But it didn’t do this, so what seems “logical” for us is not necessarily what the college is going to do.

@Mike2011 Did you apply Columbia through the unconventional path aka School of General Studies? And you are communication major too right?

@Sumner I did! and yes…I am a comm major.

@mike2011 Congratulations!

@calivalleyyy there have been many cases of applicants getting the regents invite email but getting a rejection notification days later, you can look at past threads for confirmation of this. It really is an unfortunate system, however the admissions office and the scholarship office are completely separate so they don’t decide on these matters together. However, on the off chance you don’t get in (hopefully this is not the case) just ask the individual you got the letter from for permission to use the letter at a later date for lets say another scholarship or something.

Crazy. As I leave this school, I am essentially being replaced by many of you in this thread.

@UCLAFFF - Isn’t that how it usually goes in a university? :wink:

@UCLAFFF Passing the torch! Where are you headed instead?

@marchon

I’ll be at David Geffen, so I will still be a bruin!

I will definitely miss the undergraduate experience here, but I must move on. Take advantage of the two years you have at the UC; it goes by fast!

Create summer school account on myucla and check to see if you have financial aid award. profit?

I have a question, is the regents applicable to International students studying in the U.S?

@resonanx No

I’m working a night shift on Friday that starts at 5pm. I’m so sneaking in in the bathroom to check the portal XD

I got invited to apply for Regents on April 13th or 14th. My cumulative GPA is a mere 3.71. This really is a blessing or a fluke hahaha I’m dying to know if I’ve been admitted.

@Mike2011

I’m also trying to transfer to Columbia, but have not received any notification.

Do you know if they release in waves? What major are you?

Hoping this doesnt mean bad news :-S

@postcoitaltoast , are you a UC to UC transfer? Or are you transferring from another four year? I saw a UCR transfer w a 3.7 also get the email.

@POTUS2040 They release on the same day I think, but Mike is applying through the non-traditional path which I think is the reason he heard back way sooner.
