Fall 2016 UPenn Transfer Thread

@mateenjan1 Honestly made an account just to respond to you. It’s extremely ignorant for you to think only rich kids and minorities get accepted into Penn. I am an African American female applying for neuroscience and I was DENIED. I have a 3.97 gpa, sit on the board for a major not for profit, conduct research in a nationally recognized lab, president of multiple clubs, I could go on. It’s so frustrating because if I would have got in to you it would have been because I’m black. But because you don’t get in its because you’re a white male… Get over yourself. It’s a hard school to get into and for all weknow they could have eny meeny miny mowd applicants. Either try again next year or move on. Everyone who got in was great and most of the people who didn’t were too. It sucks. I know. I cried for a solid hour. But the WORSE thing you can do is belittle others to feel better about yourself.

What is the facebook page called?

You’re a president of multiple university clubs in your freshman year?

@akfjwojwdh She is obviously a very accomplished person, your choice in doubting that is not relevant to the purpose of the thread.

@Janizary I’m still waiting to hear for Cornell. But I think I prefer UPenn anyway.

@ibtes96
Tufts University, Electrical Engineering, Sophomore
3.87 GPA
2250 SAT
University Research, Brief EE Internship, a couple small ECs
I wrote a really weird supplementary essay, which probably helped

@mateenjan1 Wow sounds like you’re incredibly hurt. No need to ruin other people’s happiness…Sorry but looks like Penn made a good decision to not accept you-- I don’t think they would want someone with such low sportsmanship to be a part of their student community.

does anyone know how to join the transfer fb group? i wasn’t added to it…

I guess you guys are right. I didn’t see the whole view of things. I wasn’t trying to be negative or put someone down. I just think the education system needs some fixing especially the college acceptance system. Congrats to everyone who was accepted. You don’t have to judgemental of my thinking or how I feel about Ivy Leagues. These are my views but I got a different taste of reality.

@akfjwojwdh yes I’m the president of two clubs at my school. I’m a sophomore and a half (3 semesters). Regardless, there were I’m sure countless people with stats and accomplishments even more impressive than mine who were denied. My purpose of stating that wasn’t to brag but rather emphasize that if all one had to do was be black and not super rich then I would have gotten in.

Rejected… Cried my heart out, but well still waiting for other colleges.

I am an International student learning English on the fly for the last two year at a CC.
Junior transfer with a 3.7 GPA & Great EC & Recommendations, not so well on SAT (I guess this is my Achilles’s heel).
I thought SAT is only a small account for junior transfer. Does anyone know how many percentage SAT is actually being taken into your admission factor?

@FutureCancerDoc7 as a rejected white male applicant, I just want to thank you for making these posts and defending your integrity. Especially given the announcement that Malia Obama will be going to Harvard, many ignorant people think race is a golden ticket to the Ivies while belittling whatever other accomplishments he/she has made, and it’s sickening. Those people are usually bitter from being rejected or care for someone who has, and can’t accept that Ivies, especially in the transfer process, are looking for very specific things, and no matter how well qualified you may be, there’s never an application strong enough to guarantee admittance, nor can two applicants be compared unless you’re sitting in the office of admissions.

You’re clearly well accomplished and already on the way for making a name for yourself, so no matter where you end up, I’m sure you’ll find great success. Reading stories like yours and others on here almost make me relieved that I wasn’t accepted, or I would’ve felt incredibly guilty!

@IvyWanted Standardized testing is the only way to compare everyone on the exact same level so they play a large role in the transfer process considering Ivy’s want to admit the best of the best.

Just saw my rejection from Penn but I got into Columbia!!!

Congrats on Columbia! I got rejected by both. Really need a deep breath right now.

does anyone know that the facebook page is for transfers? Thanks!

@YonceKnowles Thank you!

@mateenjan1
Penn '15 fall admissions…44.8% white, 50.8% women.

This might sound crazy – but admissions officers at an Ivy League university actually do holistic evaluations of their applicants, and do not have some quota-based system for a certain race or gender.

You are not part of adcom, your views are not “reality”, they are simply narrow-minded and incorrect generalizations.

@mateenjan1 As someone who goes to Penn, you’re completely wrong. I respect the fact that you tried to transfer from a community college to Wharton, but you shouldn’t think that the only plausible reason that you were not accepted is your ethnic and economic background. The acceptance rate is very low for students transferring from other Ivy League schools and top institutions. While you definitely had a shot and I respect that you applied, you should have known that more likely than not you were not going to be accepted. Sorry if this seems a bit blunt and rude, but given what you posted before, I don’t feel bad writing this.
