Anyone on here applying for GS fall 2017 semester? Just submitted my stuff this week
I am, good luck to you.
Nice! Same to you. What are your stats if you don’t mind sharing? Have you applied before?
Haven’t applied before
3.89 gpa after break (3 semesters worth)
3.47 overall (1 F, dragged it down)
Attended top liberal arts college for 1 year, currently at State school
2080 SAT
URM
Seeking 2nd degree
You?
I will also be applying. Your submitted yours so early
Went to a state school right after high school. Had a 1.5 gpa approx., got academically dismissed.
Joined the marine corps, served 3 years so far. I’ve been doing night classes at a local private school and have a 4.0 for 12 credits.
30 ACT
I talked about why I did so poorly first time around in my essay (got pretty personal with some bad things I was doing at the time). Then talked about how the marine corps has changed me, how I have a new view on education, why GS is the place for me, etc.
I have heard of people not doing so well, turning things around, and then getting accepted into GS so I’m hoping for the best!
And tjxlstate, I just wanted to get everything in before the January 15 deadline.
Does anyone know if my recommendation letters weren’t submitted in by the 15th of January deadline does that mean I won’t be considered by March 1st?
I just got an email from them yesterday saying that because your application was completed by the January 15 deadline, you will receive a decision by March 1st. I think you need to have everything in before January 15. I would call the office of admissions to confirm this. I have heard of people still being considered before that deadline as long as they submitted their application before January 15.
Hey i got the same email too! But i submitted everything on my end on the 14th. Hopefully we can be considered for the march 1st deadline
Hey I submitted my application before the Jan.15. I am also waiting for the March 1st deadline. Good Luck to everyone!
@Aprilw763 Same to you! What are your stats if you don’t mind sharing?
@nygs7792 thanks…My high school grades are average. I’m taking the GSAE in Feb. I currently have a 4.0 from a private two year college. President of PTK. I graduate in May with an AA. I took close to six or seven years off! I’m praying for the best.
Well with a 4.0 and a solid GSAE score I’m sure you will be very competitive! Good luck to you @Aprilw763
I submitted my application by Jan. 15 and got an email confirming that I will receive a decision by Mar. 1. Here’s a bit about me:
- International student; studied abroad at the age of 17
- Graduated from a CC in WA
- PTK member
- GPA: 3.7/4.0 (completed 98 credits)
- Duolingo: 78
- Did 2 internships in the field of Business (one for the state) in the second year of CC while attending college full-time
- Working full time for a year in the field of Finance (Optional Practical Training - allows international students to work legally in the US for a year)
- Plan to study Economics and Supply Chain Management at GS and come back to my home country afterwards in hopes to contribute to the economic growth of my homeland. ;)
Feeling a bit worried. Anyone cares to share about your stats?
@FromVietnamToUSA, sounds like you have a pretty awesome story to tell and impressive stats. Did you take the sat or act at all? And you have year break from school?
@nygs7792: No, I did not have to take the SAT/ACT because it’s not required for international students.
Yes, I have a break of more than a year in my educational path (the Finance full-time job in Seattle for the OPT, which is pretty competitive for int’l students to find a job in the USA).
What are you planning to study?
Oh cool! I plan on studying urban studies and minoring in economics. Unfortunately I do not have the best past grades ( a few Fs from 5 years ago). I was going through a lot of personal things, ended up joining the marine corps and turning things around, and now I have a 4.0 at the school where I take night classes. I’m hoping the drastic improvement will show my potential to do well at Columbia. We will see! Trying not to get my hopes up too much.
Your stat looks impressive to me. I know that there are a lot of veterans in the GS school. Good luck!
Thanks and same to you! This is certainly going to be a long month waiting to hear back. Hopefully we will get some good conversations going on this thread like the previous ones.
I read last year’s thread and they stuck together through the entire process! I’m also a semifinalist for the Jack Kent Cooke foundation, so I’m just a ball of nerves! Do you live in New York?
