Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

@godawgs1043 @Be-Boundless-888

Thanks! And of course! Get ready for a real jumbled mess.

So high school was a 3.7 or something like that…cant exactly remember and don’t have on hand. I never took the SAT but got a 30 on the ACT.

My major was officially Creative Writing, but now with UW’s system, I’ll be applying for English with a creative writing focus.

Went to Univeristy of Michigan Ann Arbor where I had a cumulative GPA of 3.561 (waaayyyy lower than I thought @annaythepotato lol woops).
I had a total of…brace yourself…TEN withdrawals (two full semesters plus one class) and then I dropped out because I couldn’t take it anymore…a lot of really bad stuff happened, and I needed time to recover. That was two years ago. During my two years out of school, I lived on my own and saved up money until I could stay in India for several months and become a certified yoga instructor. Then I decided this past winter that I was ready to go back and finish my degree (this all went in my personal statement).

So this probably doesn’t give you guys much useful info other than UW is officially an awesome school who believes in giving people second chances <3 I’m honestly so happy I could cry. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get in with my track record.

@Mid20transfer did you find out through online or mail or email?

Online. First my unofficial transcript loaded and (I think) simultaneously my application went from “received” to “reviewed”. And actually, about 20 minutes ago, I just got the online congrats and the option to accept my admission!! :smiley:

This girl is enjoying her night with a bottle of champagne, y’all! Here’s to second chances and to all of your responses being swift!

That is so wonderful! Too excited for you, @Mid20transfer! Congrats again!

Hi! An email just came in hours ago from UW. Sadly, I got rejected… but I guess it’s okay since I have UMD as my backup. I’m a Fall transfer applicant btw. Congrats and all the best to those who got accepted!

Hey everyone, I finally heard back from UWT. I got a rejection letter in the mail. Best of luck to all who are waiting. I am very bummed, but will try again.

@Mid20transfer You’re lucky, I got denied.

@Mid20transfer Wow!! This is one hell of a story!!! Congratulations!!!

@SharpPin sorry to hear. If you don’t mind, what major did you apply to? Do you mind sharing us your stats?

@ntsbmw I’m sorry, are you a summer or fall transfer

Thank you everyone! And I’m really sorry about the rejections:(

I called UW Admissions the other day. They said that acceptance letters will be emailed/mailed out as soon as June arrives, on a departmental basis. For instance, I am an informatics transfer, my department will start reviewing applications starting after June 15th, so it is likely that I will have to wait till late June or even mid-late July to hear back. The bright side is, if my department admits me, it’s a two birds with one stone, because I am guaranteed general admission + admission into my major. If my department rejects me, then I still have a chance to be reviewed for general admissions. At this moment, it’s still only the matter of the waiting game unfortunately…

@danieltangg17 do you happen to know when the engineering department will release their decisions?

What about open majors/general admissions, did they say anything about that?

@brian37x Unfortunately I don’t know much about other departments. But as we’ve all seen, mainly (not all but a majority) of business, arts, and pre-science majors have been admitted so far.

@godawgs1043 As of open majors I’m guessing you still have to wait for the department of the open major you applied for. Regarding general admissions, according to the admissions office, your application will be reviewed after your department makes a decision. It’s kind of confusing. But the outcomes are: Your department admits you, general admissions will also be offered OR your department rejects you and your application gets sent back to the admissions office for further review.

All in all, June is only a few days away, so let’s hope for shift notifications. :frowning:

Interesting!! I heard somewhere that open majors go in with the general admission applications so the dept wouldn’t view the application but that makes sense. Thanks!!

When I contacted the admissions dept, they told me that for CS and CSE applications that the admission decision for the dept and general admission is made by the UW admissions dept and not the CSE/CS dept, and that they are not dependent on each other.

This week is the week we start (officially) hearing back!! Ahh!!! Best of luck you guys!

Those of you in community college, how difficult have your courses typically been? Thanks

@Mountaineer2019 I may be attending Spokane Falls Community College next year and was wondering if you could answer some of my questions about the Community College? Overall impression? Rigor of courses? Quality of professors and assistance provided by school overall? I intend to apply for Foster as well.
