@VivianChy it might be because he has over 90 semester units?
Can someone post the link for the UC Berkeley 2017 Transfer thread? Thanks!
Anyone know what last year’s Orientation dates were? Just trying to get a general idea because I have a lot of places (and a wedding I’m a bridesmaid at) I need to be at this summer
why is this thread stickied?

Oh well, better than an outright rejection I guess. I doubt I’m getting in anyway though.
Hi everyone! Long time reader first time commenter. I was accepted to UCLA’s Comm program and I am almost 90% sure that I am going. I was wondering if (idk if it’s too early to worry about this) there are facebook pages or other ways for transfers to find potential roommates for the fall? If anyone knows a good way to find roommates please help me out! Thanks!!
Yes, search for the UCLA 2017 transfer group on Facebook! I highly recommend also, searching this thread for other Comm majors and reach out to them via PM.
Attend Transfer Bruin Day if you can, and maybe someone here (or in that group) can set up a place to meet that day.
Definitely sign up for a transfer orientation day, and that will be another opportunity to meet Comm majors since you’ll all be grouped together!
How does mailing work for ucla dormed students?
First time posting to give others hope. Didn’t even think I had a chance.
Accepted
Major: English
GPA: 3.67
Prerequisites: Missing one, the survey
IGTEC: Done
EC’s: Part-time retail, English tutor, english club, maybe more
TAP: nope
Essays: This is the weird part. I personally don’t think they were any good and that probably looks terrible as an English major and for someone with an average GPA. I was too busy/stressed and ended up doing all 4 of them two hours right before the application was due and did not have time to proofread. Shoutout to whomever the three were that looked over my application, I love you <3.
Accepted: UCLA, UCI, UCD, UCSB
Denied: none so far
Pending: UC Berkeley
Here is some information about mailing for students who live in the dorms…

You can use your on campus address for receiving your voting materials too.
Thank you!!
@Happy2Help Thank you very much, is there anything that dormed students should be aware of (either negative things or positive things) when dorming?
I can only give you a parent perspective about dorming.
I’d say it’s a great experience even for both years there. Your meals are a part of the fee, the food is delicious, and the hill is a safe place to live.
Negative – parking is expensive!
Maybe @Tik1127 or @Cayton can chime in. Do you have specific questions?
Edited to add (ETA):
Take this time to find friends here in this thread, that are in the same major. They could be your future roommate(s) and study partners.
I didn’t dorm. I lived close enough to school where I could live at home and commute to school without much of a hitch.
I am sure there will be a orientation about dorming as well.
Sorry, @Tik1127 I am confusing you with someone else.
Tell us about parking, your experience with the permit lottery, or if you rode public transit, how was that?
Getting a parking permit was very much a struggle. My first two quarters I was granted a parking permit. My Spring quarter I did not. I had to pay to park. It was 12 dollars a day. I would come to school early to get parking. During this time, you would input your parking space number and it would be printed out. Whenever I left, and another student came to take my spot, I would give them my ticket. Pretty much everybody did this, the students were fed up with UCLA’s policy. But the school was hip to it, by the following fall, it became place your license plate number down, they did that so students wouldn’t give their daily parking passes for free.
My last few quarters, I was given parking parking twice but I had to appeal to get one and by some miracle they gave it to me. One of the quarter’s,I had to do pay to park again. It could get expense, I only came to school twice a week, so it somewhat balanced out with paying the parking permit, which is 250. However, if you came to school 4 or 5 times a week, you’re paying 50-60 dollars a week, not to mention, there is no guarantee there will be any parking when you get to school. Only a certain amount of spots are designated to pay to park. If you can’t find parking on campus, you had to go find parking in Westwood Village and good luck with that.I knew plenty of people who missed class because they spent over an hour looking for parking. Some even got fed up and just wenr home out of frustration.
If UCLA has one MAJOR flaw, it is the parking services. One quarter, they even gave away too many parking permits, which meant there was not enough spaces available. It was an absolute nightmare. We paid for our permits and now there was not enough spots? It took them a few weeks to resolve the issue.
Hi everyone accepted yesterday ! anyone have any information on the process with major changes? since november I’ve changed my mind and wanted to know how it is transferring majors within college of letters and sciences?
@pantafootball2 from what to what?
What are you trying to change? My sister, for example, started as a psychology major and changed to sociology. I know other students who had similar transitions, psych to history. For example, you can’t go from being a sociology major to CS.
Changing can also be difficult, the university needs to approve of it and you’ll need to take the requirements. You’re basically adding more time to your academic career. Its always tricky for transfers to switch majors. My two cents will be stick with whatever major you got admitted with and puruse it.
