I believe we had to sign up annually. However there are situations such as study abroad in which you can probably leave for a quarter. But I suspect you will have to completely move out and move back in again depending on availability and probably not the same room.
I was accepted.
Major: Applied Mathematics
GPA: 3.48
TAG: UCD
Applied: UCD,UCB,UCLA
Accepted: UCD,UCLA
IGETC: Done after this semester.
Prerequisites: Finished my prerequisites Fall 2016
I’m still waiting for UCB to respond.
I got $0 in aid too, but I messed up and didn’t file a FAFSA because a counselor at my cc said my parents make too much, but now I think she was wrong. ugh
Regarding TSP, I believe an academic advisor in your major will help you. It’s an intense way to spend your summer and you’ll get used to the fast pace of the quarter system, but it’s much more compressed than a regular quarter. A 10 week class during a quarter is compressed into a 6 week summer course.
@jae2017 Yes in my daughter’s year in 2014, instead of an appeal, the student just went to the academic advisor of the original major after meeting all the prerequisites, and then was able to switch. The majors were both in the same college, Letters and Science.
@Happy2Help Thank you! I think it’d be hard to transfer from my alt to my first major because it is Communication Studies, but glad to hear you can change it. I’m going to try to send an appeal since I’ve already completed all major prereqs. Thanks again!
@xushiroll – My first choice for English was actually UCI. Last year I got into both UCI and UCLA, but went with UCLA because I live on the west side of Los Angeles and commuting to UCI would’ve been an absolute nightmare! Sometimes it just comes down to distance
ETA: My Eng professors at UCLA have been incredible though, so it’s not like I am compromising. It’s been a great experience.
Hello I got accepted to UCLA. but i am so worried that I had one C+ in chem 1C in winter quarter… Will they rescind my decision because of getting 1 C in major preparatory classes? I reported to admission all my grades in winter quarter… and no the portal says “We received your recent communication regarding changes to your academic information and are currently reviewing your record. Upon completion, we will contact you to inform you of any status changes.”
@Edirol I am also an English major and am planning on attending for fall. Do you have any recommendations for professors/courses? also, how many classes per quarter do you recommend taking as an English major?
My aunt in the army wants me to take a pic with the ucla bound post card thing . But all I have is the email acceptance. Does anybody know where I can find that?
@uclahopeful2017 – I don’t recommend taking more than 2 English courses each quarter. The Eng courses are reading and writing intensive and the idea of taking 3 English courses in one quarter makes me want to cry.
In fact, incoming transfers cannot enroll in more than 3 courses for the fall (you would need approval from an academic counselor to exceed 3 courses, I believe).
The upper division English courses are 5 units each, so two Eng classes = 10 units, plus an elective (generally 4 units each) will give you 14 units total, which is considered full time. It’s only my third quarter here at UCLA but 3 classes each quarter (2 ENG, one elective) has served me well and kept me plenty busy.
If you plan on graduating early you could take 4 classes per quarter but I wouldn’t recommend it. It all depends on you and the time you can devote to homework outside of familial, social, and work obligations.
Some professors I’ve had and adore: Hornby (Virginia Woolf course), Lopez (Chicano literature), Perez-Torres (Fiction after 1945), Thomas (Medieval Holy Women lit)…
Bruinwalk.com is a great resource for looking up professors and reading student evaluations.
