@uclahopeful2017 “The UCLA Regents Scholarship represents one of the highest honors awarded to entering students at the University of California and offers a merit award of $2,000 per year for two years. Scholars who have additional financial need, based upon a review of their FAFSA, are awarded up to their demonstrated need with additional scholarships and grants.”
@icuzns I got Regents for UCI and was offered $4,000 per year. Surprised UCLA offers less. The Alumni scholarship also offers $4,000 as well. Awesome to have gotten Regents for UCLA though
For everyone that is receiving financial aid (e.g. Cal grant)- is there anywhere on MyUCLA that says you need to submit additional documents? I had to do that every year for my CC but I haven’t seen that anywhere on MyUCLA
@TheChadmania I didn’t know you could ask why you weren’t accepted. Who did you call? The department you applied to or admissions in general?
Yay full ride to ucla ! My financial aid package came strong
Didn’t get into Cal so UCLA is looking more promising.
Anyone in Northern California going to the Bay Area meeting in San Mateo?
How competitive is the alumni scholarship?
Got into Berkeley and got the Regents for UCLA too!! So so so excited. Probably picking Ucla though but good luck to anyone applying to regents and good luck to anyone applying for the alumni scholarship and best wishes for everyone to have amazing financial aid and to get off the waitlist, etc!! And if you didn’t get into Cal, UCLA is still aamaaazzzing (as you all know).
Do you recommend it or no?
How do you know if you got Regents or not?? I got an email yesterday about the Alumni Scholarship but I don’t know how to check for the Regents.
@NawarJ check your email (:
I wonder if they care how close you are to the teacher or counselor that recommends you for regents. It’s been a long time since I graduated from my cc, and my favorite teachers are retired or on sabbatical.
I’m north bay, so I might go to the bay area meeting…
@UCSBorUCLA Do I recommend TSP?
As a parent I do but I feel that the main factor is cost and where you plan to live during the 6 week session.
Do you need to take a summer course? Are you all caught up on your prereqs? If not and cost is a factor, you should take courses at CC.
Do you work/volunteer? The session is intense and you may want to dedicate all your time to it. If you are ready for an upper division course and have the time, you should look into it further.
@Edirol
Yeah I think this one comes down to distance for me too but thank you so much for all of the insight!
Did not get into UCLA but inspired and proud of all I see on here. Industrious students with stellar GPAs, impeccable extracurriculars, and dogged drive! Since the beginning, humans have longed for safety, justice and a fair opportunity to make it and this nation embodies all of these longings. America in the 21st century is the zenith of human civilization and it is amazing to see so many people seeking to obtain skills to be exceptional individuals and stewards over all that America has to offer. Everyone on here sees the olympic gold of going to a great university and is racing to be the best they can be and beyond to win the gold and many have succeeded. This thread makes me proud to be an American. I just leave some of my favorite words from one of our Founding Fathers, John Adams, “Statesmen . . . may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.” Skills alone fall flat. Virtues are necessary to be become great citizens to sustain the greatness of America in the 21st century. I hope everyone here will be both virtuous and skilled!
Hello Everyone, I recently got admitted as a transfer biology but now I have ended up dropping two of the prereq’s for my major as I planned to take them in the fall at my school because I felt it would be the best choice. But now that I indicated I would take them and complete them prior to the spring what should I do? Should I just take them during the summer or would I be able to take it in the fall?
What would you guys do in this situation? I can’t decide lol.
Go to UCLA as your alt major even though it’s your dream school or go to Berkeley as your first choice major even though it’s super far from where you live(I live in LA).
@cmdchavezz Yes, I called them this morning and they said we don’t have to follow the details that say we need to get it from the IRS because they said the IRS is being difficult, so what I’m going to do is take scans of my parents tax returns and send it through MyUCLA (covering the SSS tho).
@HeirOfLincoln APPEAL under your alternate major! Find out what the issue was with your application.
@ucla19 What does your admission contract say? You may want to register for the courses this summer if you can find them, and admit to Admissions right away plus send proof of your summer course payment. It is not good to keep this information from them. If you tell them, they’ll work with you.
