Always communicate any issues you might have with your roommate(s). This is important. You wouldn't want to breed resentment over issues that weren't discussed. That's not fun.
Germs travel at light-speed in dorms because of the tight quarters. I got a cold two time in 8 weeks in my first quarter at UCLA. Always wash your hands and stay away from sick people, lol
Don't keep eating at the same dining hall, even if you love it. Trust me, you will get tired eventually, even though it's UCLA food and some of the best dining food in America.
Related to #3, De Neve and Bruin Plate are the best dining halls in my opinion. De Neve serves all kinds of American food and some Mexican food. Really good! Bruin Plate serves healthy food that also manages to be delicious. There's long lines at this dining hall and De Neve to a lesser extent sometimes. Try to come to these dining halls as early as you can in the meal period.
Don't be afraid to socialize. That's basically what dorming is about. You'll enjoy it even if you're not too comfortable doing it at first.
That’s pretty much it. Dorming was fun and I’m glad I did it. My favorite part of the UCLA experience.
A lot of these classes are aslo within the major of History, however I see it says only one class for the major can be applied for the minor. Is this in regards to science classes or History classes as well?
@fcb1010 I’m thinking about taking “Electrical Engineering 3 — Introduction to Electrical Engineering” It’s a 3 unit class. From the course description, it doesn’t look too bad.
@fcb1010 I’m a train ride and bus ride away from UCLA. So, it would be very convenient for me to take that class. @Happy2Help I’m honestly just going by the course catalog and selecting which classes aren’t met by the lower division classes I took at my CC. From my research, it looks like my fall semester is going to consist of 50% lower division courses and 50% upper div. @bettertransfer Go on youtube and search “UCLA dorms”. Should give you a good idea.
@SunandSound. Same I just looked at the catalog and UCLA has it as a course to take during summer for transfer students. I’m from Northern California so I’m debating whether to take it or not. @Happy2Help
@bettertransfer I have! there wasn’t an option to choose a specific housing (apartments or etc), just to list out preferences for what room type you want.
@LynAmmo right!! but now I’m stressing about doing well in my classes right now (that I’ve been slacking off for a while because of my attitude of being over with cc) so my decision doesn’t get cancelled or etc.
Since this thread is still active, can you guys help me really quick? I’m a future student who wants to transfer to UCLA next year, but a C, in a non major class, is really messing up my gpa. Do you guys think that UCLA, or any other UC, will ignore it or not take it too heavily?
@dreamla ┬──┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ) Dang, same here. I thought I could slack off so I’ve been getting C’s but now I gotta step up my game and get at least B’s!! Lets do this!!! ☜(˚▽˚)☞
Does anyone know how the middle-class scholarship works? My family income isn’t low enough for me to get a decent amount of grant aid (only getting about $1,000 per year according to my award letter), but it’s definitely not high enough for me to pay for virtually everything out of pocket. I’d appreciate any input you guys could offer me.
I am desperately looking for summer research programs and/or internships programs during summer. I will not be taking classes at my CC, and at the same time I don’t want to waste it. I wanna do a summer programs and get a sense what UCLA is like. Please please advise me if you know of summer programs that I can apply to. I didn’t seem to find any programs that the deadline to apply for has not passed! :((
I appreciate it!
