FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@bigvoot haha yes!! I thought I was the only one, I have an A in my other class but for my one class I have to try my best to get a B now because an A is highly unlikely but whatever I guess ugh

@LynAmmo yes same girl! I’m so stressed now mostly since finals and the end of the semester projects and etc are coming up, I just keep saying you can’t lose what you worked so hard for the past year!

@bettertransfer me too! I can’t wait for September!!

@MiniBruin well good thing is you’re going to be in LA which is the central of millions of opportunities and internships! check out internships.com by chegg thats where I did a few of mine last fall and also check out craiglists haha. It may be sketchy at times, but it never failed when it came down to internships and etc.

Does anyone know if we can take any summer courses at our CC lets say we finish the spring with 61 units, can we take one more cc class during the summer to hit the max of 64 so we can save more money by taking a cc class and maybe finishing some units before we transfer??

Got rejected :frowning: Not sure if I should appeal. I am transferring from another UC. I got all A’s from winter quarter. Does it count as an important update?

@fcb1010 @SunandSound I apologize, I didn’t realize you had to take lower division courses upon transferring. Will you be able to finish your degree in 2 years? I know the curriculum is quite tough as I went through a similar discipline myself at UCLA long ago.

@dreamla you can take courses at CC but I believe you need to report your plans to Admissions. Also I believe, if it hasn’t changed, the maximum that will count toward your degree is 70 UC transferable semester units but you can have more CC units than that. You can also take summer courses that are upper division toward your degree at your local UC or CSU. Again, report to Admissions. You might want to contact your major department’s advisor to make sure the class(es) you are planning to take, will count toward your major unless you know they are UC transferable.

@agneswu68 It doesn’t hurt to appeal. Your compelling evidence could be your winter and spring grades. Did you meet your prereqs? Do you have a letter of reciprocity which might help you?

@MiniBruin if you have SIR’d and if you can get your BruinCard, I think you can go to the Career Center and look for internships.

I officially SIRed to UCLA

@Happy2Help I’ll go ahead and do that! Thank you for your help :)>-

For those of you who got into Berkeley and UCLA. Have you guys decided which school to attend? I’m still having a hard time choosing which school to SIR. 〆(・∀・@)

Hey guys!! So I’m pretty sure that I’m going to be SIR’ing to UCLA!! Super excited!!! Have you guys decided what to do for housing? I tried to go onto the housing Facebook group to check out what off campus housing would look like, but it looks like we need a ucla email for that (idk how to make one or if we can make one until we SIR)

So does ucla send transfer acceptances through the mail ? I want a more official document haha

@bigvoot They’re both amazing schools, so at this point I just narrowed it down to location and finances. Berkeley is the most expensive and my house is only an hour and a half from UCLA vs. 6 hours and then some from Berkeley. Meaning I could come by during the weekends to do laundry, see my dog, save money, etc. I think it just comes down to where you see yourself and where would be most convenient and financially beneficial.

Does anyone know when UCLA Regents letters come out?
(I apologize if this has been asked previously)

I think they came out last friday already.

@agneswu68 don’t be discouraged, you’re still a great student! It would be good to try and appeal, especially since you received all A’s in Winter and could better help you to officially be admitted. I hope you do. Also make sure to work with an advisor or someone to help with the appeal.

@barbozafernando awesome!!

@bigvoot I felt like the only reason I would have picked Berkeley is just because of the name and how it ranks but that’s pretty arbitrary/insignificant, especially since there isn’t enough of a difference between UCLA and Cal in terms of prestige or whatever. I narrowed it down because I thought about how I felt that there was a better, friendlier community at UCLA (which is subjective) and that I would have a better time at UCLA. UCLA is also closer to me, better for my major, and I know more people at the school and around the area. UCLA seemed to care more about transfers which is something crucial since we are coming in as juniors and are gonna be hitting the ground running. But in the end, like @LynAmmo said, it all depends on you. I would make a pros and cons list for UCLA and also Berkeley and compare which looks better to you if you want a different way to look at things. Either one is still amazing I mean they’re the #1 and #2 public universities in the nation. Good luck!

@littlebuns ah this is so exciting, I hope you do SIR! You need to SIR before you apply for housing but before you SIR you need to create your UCLA log on ID. You can see how to do this just by following the admitted student checklist provided on one of the tabs of the decision letter site.

@pantafootball2 they should be sending us the acceptance package within the next few weeks

@gskDreams the regents invites came out on Friday. If you haven’t already, check your email to see if they sent you anything or if it may have gone to spam or something if you havent seen it yet. If you didn’t receive it all then no worries, you’ve still been admitted to UCLA!

I’m not too sure but I think housing is first come first serve so make sure that, if you can, you submit your SIRs and apply for housing to ensure you get the housing area that you want

Didn’t get into berkeley, SIR’d to UCLA for anthro. $23k in grants, the rest will be loans. I’m 25, independent, will (hopefully) be living in university apartments. Although I didn’t really wanna stay in socal, I’m pretty stoked. Wee!

Housing is based on a lottery system for UCLA
