In the admissions contract, when it says to maintain the grade point average does that mean to just make sure to get a B or C in your class? or does that mean to maintain the GPA you applied with?
I have to travel because my boyfriends mom is dying from cancer and my calc professor won’t let me push back a test that I will end up missing. I can replace the grade with the final, but just want to know the specifics.
@GodfreyWang What’s up man! I’ll be living on the “on-campus” apartments subsidized by UCLA. I submitted my housing app. Is this what you meant? Or by that, did you mean residence halls?
On June 8th, 2017, you can begin registering for orientation through MYUCLA.
I believe you need to keep that 3.0 before transfering. Meaning you cannot get a C, your admissions can be rescinded.
Cannot get a C??? :-SS [-O<
@LesKnope I called regarding the contract and you don’t have to maintain the exact GPA you applied with. If you applied with a 4.0 you don’t have to receive a 4.0 for your last semester. However, if you get a “C” in a major pre-req class you have to notify UCLA immediately. I asked if this would automatically rescind your acceptance, but the lady said that they would have to review your application again and make a determination. She said that they are unable to tell you a straightforward yes or no answer to if it will or not. UC Berkeley allows a “C” as long as your GPA stays over 3.0… I don’t know why UCLA doesn’t. ):
Let rephrase that. If you have 2 courses, and if you get an A in one, and a C in the other, you’ll be fine, you still have that 3.0 GPA. However, if you are only taking a single course and end up with a C, then yes, you can have your admissions rescinded. You want to maintain a 3.0 GPA coming in. It’s somewhat of an agreement between both parties that you will maintain a strong enough GPA.
UCLA does not want to admit you and you still have course work to do and you say screw it, let me throw my feet up in class and put my hands behind my head, and telling your professor to screw off because I got into UCLA. They want you to finish strong, especially if it is a prep-course or some type of requirement.
I always, always, ALWAYS tell transfer students to finish up every single thing before applying. Do not leave any loose ends. At the latest, be done with every single class by your fall semester. Because if you apply and take a course and have to drop or get a grade that will hinder your chances. You can lose a year in your academic career. Then you will have to go through the process of reapplying the following year.
@Tik1127 Okay, I get you =D> I almost had a heart attack :))
has anyone applied for the Alumni scholarship? If so, have you heard back? I have so much going on trying to finish the semester that I have no time to work on filling in and submitting scholarships, especially with such near due dates for them. :-S
This may have been mentioned already but just an FYI – when sending in transcripts, please remember that some schools do not send in IGETC along with your transcripts. You may have to pay a separate fee to send IGETC. That’s how it was for me with Santa Monica College – I assumed IGETC would be sent along with my transcripts but no, I had to order it separately.
@Tik1127 thanks for clarifying. I’m taking 2 other courses that I will ace for sure. I have an A in my calc class so far, but I’m nervous about having to rely on a final to replace a test I can’t take. Just gonna have to study extra hard.
Hi guys! Getting ready for Bruins Day? I hope someone can answer my question. If we apply for housing, how long will it take them to let us know that we are offered housing?
@masechka1988
As I recall, when I applied for housing a few years back, it took a couple of months. I think I was notified in August.
Also, go for plazas. They have private bathrooms.
Got a call from UCLA right now and freaking died a little inside but it was just the new bruins transition team. They were super helpful and nice so thank god for that!
I also got a call from UCLA congratulating me on the acceptance and wondered if I had any questions. They also asked me a question that was part of a small survey they were doing.
I see I’m not the only one who can’t see thier Financial Aid package. I checked the Tracking Documents tab but it says there’s no information for me yet? I’m like 90% leaning for Cal but I wanted to see before I submitted the SIR what UCLA would offer. A full ride would be hard to turn down, but Cal housing is extremely competitive. What should I do they won’t take my calls!
Stupid question: how do we change our phone number for them to call us on? The ucla number (310-825…?) and another ucla number are calling my old number and I don’t know how to change to my updated one :\
@Cayton I applied for University Village Family housing. I hope they can notify me earlier.
I was accepted to Cal and will likely attend, but I thought I’d take the time to appeal my rejection from UCLA. I know someone did this for UCSD, stating that they’d been admitted to Berkeley, and have already been accepted. I talked in my appeal how my academic and professional interests are more aligned with UCLA’s department and research opportunities, also touching on how I was accepted to Cal. Don’t know if this was the right or wrong thing to do, but hey, why not? Has anyone appealed and/or heard back about their appeal yet? I want to submit my SIR soon.
I’d advise you not to bring up you got admitted to Cal. With all due respect to UCSD, UCSD is not UCLA. UCLA outranks UCSD in some of the most important departments. CAL and UCLA are ranked as the #1 and #2 public universities in the country and UCLA is by far the most applied university in the country.
It’s coming off as you’re trying to tell UCLA’s admissions committee, “Hey, Cal accepted why didn’t you? Isn’t Cal a better University?”. Your approach will come off a bit insulting and your chance of appeal will be denied rather quickly.
Plenty of applicants get rejected from Cal who also apply to UCLA and vice versa. Each university looks for certain qualities in a student. If you’re going to appeal, go for it, but again, do not try to bring Cal into your argument, not only is it sophomoric, it will come off as very insulting to UCLA.
