FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@filipinafoodie96

I believe the school has to send in your official transcripts and they are supposed to be sealed. If the seal is broken, then it won’t count. I am not sure if things changed when I sent in my transcripts. The IGETC, I believe the counselor signed it and it was also sent like that, I don’t really recall.

Im applying for housing right now and i was wondering if under the classification everyones says undergrad first year?? If not how do i change that?

Idk if this is the same thing housing but for scholarships we are technically “first years” and can apply for first year scholarships. I think first year is a classification for first year at Ucla.

I called housing today and they said about a week after the June 1st deadline they’ll email transfers housing offers.

I submitted my housing application today along with the mandatory $30 fee. The confirmation that I received said that we will know on June 3rd who our roommate(s) will be. Also when I went to Bruin Day, the housing representative person said that as long as we turn in the housing application by the June 1st date, we should know our roommate(s) by June 4th. So around that time.

Sup guys, how’s everyone doing? I’m guessing it’s finals week this week or next week for most of us.

Let’s do well on our finals and not get rescinded lolll 〆(・∀・@)

Really worried about dorming/roommates. I only live 50 minutes away from UCLA so I’m kind of considering opting to ‘live off campus’ for financial reasons but I don’t want to miss out on the real college experience that I’ve been missing while living at home and attending a community college. Also, my bf goes to UCLA and has a single dorm so I feel like I’d be spending a lot of my time in his room. I just don’t want to have to make my parents pay for housing and then not be happy with my roommates/dorming. Ughh the struggle.

Anybody else not to do so hot on at least on of their finals this semester? I won’t get rescinded or anything, but it was tough!

Does anyone know how he roommate selection is done? I just want to make sure I’m roomed with other transfers to establish some friends and social life lol.

To anybody concerned about your ‘last semester-itis’:

I talked to a representative yesterday on the phone and she cleared up a few things regarding grades, housing technicalities, and the overall experience of on-campus living.

  1. You need to report an academic downfall IF you will be receiving a C in one of your MAJOR PREP classes. If you are finishing the last of your pre-requisites, try your best not to get a C. However, in terms of other classes (elective, per say), you shouldn't get more than two C's in two separate classes. Even then, aim for a B to be safe.
  2. A housing representative and my tour guide explained that due to the increase in freshmen admits, transfers are only guaranteed triple dorms. Most upperclassmen have sealed the doubles and singles along with the freshmen. Therefore, unless you're concerned about room preferences, I definitely recommend putting 'triple ___' for your first preference because it gives you AT LEAST a better chance at the ROOM you want.
  3. I've never had someone tell me that they regret dorming their first year, but I've had people tell me that they regret NOT dorming their first year at any UC campus, really. If you're concerned about whack roommates, get to know someone on here first and then make the request. However, I would also recommend leaving that third spot for someone random as a way of meeting someone new.

Good luck with finals, friends.

I’m just really hoping I get some cool roommates.

Y’all keep me in your prayers I need to ace my last essay and final to keep a B in this prereq class so I don’t get my decision rescinded so PLEASE LORD HELP. I am so stressed but I keep telling myself it’s for UCLA and it’s just one week of hard work.

have you guys SIR’d yet? i got in for bizecon, but am still not sure lowkey…

@skrrrtskrrrrttt I got in for biz econ as well and I haven’t SIRd. I’m still deciding between schools.

Sometimes I read posts on the Facebook groups for transfer about people who are looking for roommates and I mentally think that we could get along as roommates but I’m too shy to message anyone lol so I’m just going to have to hope I get great roommates.

@dreamla did you do the LLC for Transfers?

@dreamla. Don’t worry to much everything will go good. UCLA is waiting for you. I’m finished with finals and everything went well just like it will for you. This week was way worth it.

You got this, good luck!

@dreamla You got this. Good Luck!

For those debating between living on campus or living at home, my advice is to pick the latter. If you live close enough to school, do the commute. You’re going to save a lot more money by living at home compared to living on campus. I lived about 20 miles away from campus and I decided to live at home and just commute twice a week.

There were various factors involved in my decision. For one, I did not want to be near school 24/7. Sometimes, you just need to get away and be free from campus life.

Two, I didn’t want to live with people I didn’t know. I am a little bit OCD, and being clean and orderly is important to me. I couldn’t expect a perfect stranger to live by my standards.

Three, you’re going to pay so much for such a tiny place. It isn’t worth it. When your time comes to an end and when you have to re-start paying your student loans, it is going to be a world of difference by how much you’re going to pay back.

I spoke to a fellow graduate recently said his biggest mistake was living on campus when his family home was in Century City. He said, he would be a lot closer in paying his loans off if he had decided just live at home.

You’re not going to miss out on anything by living at home. I had a great college experience while I lived at home.
