this may be a dumb question but if our housing offer said we were in a deluxe triple, is there a possibility that we may actually get a deluxe double? just wondering
I posted a separate thread with no replies … so trying here too. Anyone happen to know whether by accepting the UCLA housing offer today I am legally binding myself to pay for the entire academic year OR if that doesn’t happen til I would make the first payment referenced in the payment schedule attached to the housing offer on June 27th? Damn lawyers make it confusing.
Contract reads “2. TERM. The term of this Contract shall be the Academic Year term as defined in the Housing Offer Notice of Acceptance, and the dates of occupancy shall be as specified in the Housing Offer, incorporated herein by reference. By signing below, Student is agreeing to be bound for the entire term of this Contract. This Contract, properly executed, shall be effective on the date the first payment required by the Housing Offer is received and accepted by University.”
Any help here would be appreciated - my circumstances are sort of complicated. Thanks.
@“Option Period” by accepting the housing offer, you are technically binding yourself to the housing contract. If you choose to not do housing after accepting the contract, I read that it is a $400 or so fee. I’m not sure how it works if you want to change housing by the end of the first quarter, but as of right now once you agree to the contract you are supposed to be paying for the upcoming school year.
By when do we need to send in our Bruin ID picture?
@sc4589 July 1st
what happens if we miss it?
I was going to bump the 2015 Fall Transfer Thread. But it is closed but, I just want to say congratulations to the Transfer Class of 2015, today, June 16, 2017, is your day when you graduate but I will leave it here. Congrats to all who graduate today!

Nothing happens. You can just take your Bruin ID photo on orientation day. It was quick and they’ll ask who needs to take their picture? And you just go from there. That’s what I did on my orientation three years back… Has it been three years :-/
Seems like it was just yesterday…
Transfer Class of 2017 and Class of 2019, enjoy your time at UCLA, you’ll see how fast your time at UCLA goes. It will be an amazing time in your life. When times are stressful during midterms, exams and finals, take a moment to just breathe and take in the beauty that is the University of California Los Angeles. It really is a magical place.
UCLA has many graduate courses, however, those that are in the spectrum that is humanities, they tend to be doctorate courses or nothing at all. There are only a few MBA’s courses when it comes to humanities. Most of their MBA courses tend to be in the scientific field, AKA South Campus majors.
Did anyone else get a plaza single in Hedrick Summit? Worried about being able to find/make friends who are also transfers
I just got accepted yesterday! I feel very overwhelmed as there is a lot to do. Does anyone mind walking me through things?
Hey guys! I just got accepted recently and am SO excited!! I am going to be living on campus. I’m interested in talking to anyone who’s interested in rooming up
@xomitty @braaandon13 Congrats! I’d make sure to knock out everything on the admissions checklist especially housing and orientation
Classic Double in Rieber hall, need roommate. Also is anybody doing TSP?
Congratulation to all of you who got into UCLA. I’m planning to transfer in the coming fall. Don’t know if anyone can chance me?
Major: Civil engineering
current gpa: 3.54
Prereqs: Finished all phys and most of the math. Working on CS and last math class
EC: honor society ( permanent member )
-rose parade internship
- got awards related to academic
@KnightKing Hi! First, cool username! I cannot wait for GOT S7 any longer!
(My original post had a lengthy response, but it seems like it was cut out)
Anyway, I mentioned that unfortunately your GPA falls below the average admitted GPA for the engineering majors. https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof16_mjr.htm#SEAS
UCLA reviews applications holistically, so that means that while GPA is important, it’s not the only thing they consider. There’s a possibility that the engineering department is actually the ones that give the final okay, as some department like to pry applications from admissions and review them for themselves( per UCLA admission rep). While UCLA is holistic, not sure if the engineering department is. My suggestion was to make sure your insight questions are exceptional and to pick prompts that allow you to discuss personal and educational hardships and ones that allow you to talk about your leadership and involvement in the community (they love that). Ace all your Fall classes, since you’ll be reporting your grades in January before they make a final decision. An upward trend in grades can help you. Start the application process and most importantly, the insight questions EARLY!
Hope this helps, and good luck!
@KnightKing Hey man I’m gonna attend UCLA this fall for Civil Engineering. Let me tell you a bit about my stats and extra curricular, then i’ll talk about you.
my GPA when applying was a 3.72. I tagged to UC Davis (Accepted). I finished all 5 math classes, all 3 physics, both Chem 1A and Chem 1B, one course in C programming, and 3 engineering class (Statics, MatLab, AutoCad). On top of that I took 2 required writing classes, and 4 GEs. I was a board member of engineering club, got some awards, etc…
Now my advice to you is this. 3.54 isn’t necessarily a bad GPA, but it is on the lower side. So try to maybe take some classes in fall to bump it up. Because by the end of summer (when I was applying) I had a 3.72, but after getting all As in fall. I bumped my GPA to 3.78. Then in january you update your application, and it looks a lot stronger.
Secondly, make sure EVERY prerequisite that is available at your community college is taken. So every math, physics, chemistry, and computer science required.
Now you may see on assist.org it could say “no articulation” for certain strongly recommended classes. Sometimes you may have a class at your community college (or one nearby) that offers a similar class, to which you can use when you transfer. For example, I took Statics at my community college. But on UCLA for civil engineering for my school, it says no articulation to UCLA’s Statics class. But when I enrolled, I showed them my transcripts and they now approved it, making it easier for me to graduate faster (as i don’t need to take it at UCLA). So to be more specific, try to take as many engineering courses in “Thermodynamics”, “Statics”, “Dynamics”, “Deformable solids”, “MatLab”, “Strengths of Materials” in your community college. I unfortunately didn’t take many and thus regret it as I may have to stay for a 3rd year because of it (plus its cheaper). So take as many of these classes as possible (even if its not at your main college) as it will make you a stronger candidate (and it may bump your GPA up).
Feel free to ask any more questions.
does anyone know how hard it is to get into classes as an english major? I am scheduled for the 4th orientation session and as I look at the current english classes, most of them have only 20 or 30 seats and almost half of the seats are already taken.
I applied for the transfer housing community and on my housing offer I got a “de neve deluxe triple”…does that mean it’s either gardenia or holly? I heard holly is the transfer community building this year so it’s making me hopeful…
anyways does anyone know when they give you your exact building and room number? it says it appears at a later date but I’m getting anxious…
Can someone please tell me how and when we’re supposed to apply for loans!?
anyone receive financial aid for housing yet? The first payment is due 06/27, and I remember seeing somewhere that we would get a disbursement to cover it… maybe I was wrong. Any one get charged the same amount twice?
