FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Does anyone know where exactly we accept or reject our financial aid offers? Is anyone doing any honors programs and got an email? I’m confused as to what more requirements as a transfer student I still need to do??? I’ve been trying to look at the “New Transfer Checklist”, can anyone tell me any other requirements I have to do?! I’ve already done/still in mind:
-Applied for Bruincard
-Already sent official transcripts through Spring 2017
-Signed up for NSO
-Won’t be needing parking permit since I have no car as of now
-Took the “Transfer Student Survey”
-Talking to my physician still regarding my Ashe Immunizations

Just making sure, the application for on campus parking starts tomorrow July 3rd right? and if we received the Regents scholarship it’s guaranteed parking as long as we submit our parking application on time?

If any one has questions regarding academics at UCLA, feel free to ask me! You guys are in for a great university experience!

How much is the washer/dryer machine? Is there any coin machine? Do we need our own hemper?

For bruincard, whenever we swipe the card, do we need to put pin number,too?

what would it mean if our courses taken say “unknown” on the dar report?

A question about orientation. The Orientation will start at 7:30 am and ends at 8:00 pm. I called the Orientation Office to see if we could leave early. They said “No, because the course enrollment will begin at 7:00 pm.” I wonder that can we register the courses by ourselves after that day or it has to be done by the academic advisor on that day?
It looks the students need to live on campus for two nights? One night before the orientation day and one night on the orientation day. For the students living very far away from LA, how will you arrange your transportation for orientation day? Thanks.

@Graceboost2017

I am not sure who told you that you need to stay on campus for two night but that is absolutely false. You can just get up and go to the campus that morning. That is what I did and so did every other transfer student I have ever spoken to. I met students who drove up/down to UCLA from Palm Springs, San Diego and even as far as SF that night/morning. Most had not made the move just yet.

Attending orientation is highly recommended. Trust me, at the time, I thought it was a giant waste of time. They made you walk to the moon and back, do corny activities and etc. However, there were useful aspects of the orientation. You sit with a student advisor and he/she will break down what you need to graduate and etc. You will also register that day, your student adviser will give you a type of access code for you to go in and they will show you how to register.

However, if you cannot make it for whatever reason, go to the link below. It will direct you to the New Student & Transition Programs and they’ll direct you on enrolling and etc.I guess you will have to e-mail them and tell them you do not want to go to orientation. I am not 100% sure but I am going to assume your enrollment date will likely be pushed back all the way to the end after every transfer student has enrolled because they came to the orientation and you did not.

Honestly, it isn’t that bad. You’re going to meet your peers since they bunch majors together. These students are likely going to end up being your classmates, study partners, and friends. I still keep in touch with the students I did the orientation with. Is the day long? Yes? Do they tell you common sense information? Yes, but it really isn’t that bad. It is that day where you truly feel like a UCLA Bruin.

Best of luck.

@Graceboost2017 I’m an hour north of sf, and my car is not up to the distance, so I booked a flight. I’m flying in the night before, staying in at the dorm, and then I have a red eye a few hours after orientation is estimated to end.

Not everyone is up to driving 7 +/- hours straight, then doing orientation for 12-13 hours, and then driving another 7 hours without sleep, so boarding one or more nights is necessary for some. No shame. Sleep is necessary.

I finally located my DAR and took at look at it. I am not too sure if I am correct or the DAR is correct. I took a foreign language (Spanish) at the CCC i was attending and on the DAR it says i have not completed a foreign language. I am not too sure how to search if the class i took was IGETC certified or not. I was wondering if someone could walk me through it PLEASE.

If it helps the Spanish class did count for two years of high school credit and it did have a asterisk(*) next to it on assist; although, I’m not too sure what that means exactly.

Does anyone know which classes have spots reserved for our orientation sessions? I’m looking at political science classes and with the exception of a couple they’re all full with “no waitlist”.

Also: I don’t see professors listed. Anyone know how we can find out who the professor is for classes?

@Lebkuchen2017 if you look at the “i” symbol some classes tell you whether they are reserving spots but I think it’s best to look at several different potential classes in case spots run out.

Does anyone know if the classes listed on assist required for an English major are equivalents for UCLA even if it doesn’t say they are on the DAR? Also, for most upper division english classes at UCLA, it says that the equivalents for ENG 10A, 10B, and 10C had to have been completed, but on assist it only listed we must take 2 lit classes.

At my CC I was given the option to take Survey of English Lit 1 which is the equivalent of UCLA ENG 10A), and then I was given the option to take either (Survey of Eng Lit 2 (equivalent to UCLA ENG 10C) OR Survey of American Lit. 1600-1860 OR Survey of American Lit. 1860 to present. Does anyone know if either of these 2 American Lit classes will count as or be equivalent to 10C? Also, 10B was not offered at any CC’s near me, so do the two required courses (ENGL lit 1 and a choice of the other 3 classes listed above) all count as UCLA ENG 10A, B and C??? Any other english majors or anyone with knowledge on this please help!

@uclahopeful2017

No need to worry. During your orientation, you’ll sit with your student adviser and he/she will break down what you’re going to need. Once you go to your orientation, it will be clear what you need to finish your undergraduate degree in English.

Just relax and enjoy your summer. :-0

I got HED for housing as well @gaokaomaster

is it difficult to change majors within college of letters and science?

@pantafootball2

It all depends on what you’re switching to. I know psychology majors who moved over to the history department. You cannot come in as a sociology major then try to change majors to comp sci. It needs to be a lateral transition.

@tik1127 thank you for the response I’m actually trying to change to sociology and talked to the department advisor and all they require is to take three courses with a C or higher and I can change

Do we have ucla.edu email address? And how to get it?

@Graceboost2017 I think when you created your my.ucla.edu account, it also creates the ucla.edu email.
