FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Thanks, you are right. I got it.

I’m worried.

Under my disbursement summary, it says total aid of 0.00

But I was offered the blue and gold scholarship, I accepted it before the deadline, and it says that I would be expected to contribute nothing.

Does anybody else’s summary show 0.00 under total aid?

@TayDee

Your FA will not be disbursed till a week before classes start.

Did anyone have their orientation yet?

Mine’s at Aug 7th. Anyone else going on that date?

@JC2017 I had mine. I was with the first Transfer student orientation

@muveemaniac96 Do they really require you to stay all 12 hours?

@JC2017

Yes. If you show up too late, they won’t allow you to sign up for classes and if you leave early you won’t be able to sign up for your classes.

@Tik1127 Well that sounds lame. Was it at least worth all that time?

@JC2017

In a way it was. Granted it is a long and drawn out day but in retrospect, I think it was worth it. I met future classmates that I studied with later in our academic term. That day we grabbed beers at Wolfgang’s at Ackerman and the day went by a lot better after that.

I just wish it was a shorter day or better yet if we didn’t have to meet up around 7:30 in the morning, but if I had to do it again, I would. As I stated before, it was the first day where you actually felt like UCLA Bruin. We’ve all gone through it.

The orientation we attend is only for transfers right? Or are there freshmens mixed in with our orientation?

I’m going to the new student orientation on August 7th and wanted to know some questions???
1.) Do we have to accept our financial aid now before attending New student orientation? Is there a deadline to accept aid? (if there is?) I still have to think about my financial aid that they gave me and talk about loans…?
2.) How many classes does a usual first time transfer university student take and what units?
3.) How was New Student Orientation, for those who have gone already??? Was it confusing or a mix of a new difft world or scary? Pls expand your experience.
4.) Did anyone before have to complete the Financial Wellness Requirement? What is it like?
5.) I’m really scared because I haven’t completed my Ashe immunizations (still need to talk to my doctor about some of the requirements) , loan process, and waiving UC SHIP since I have insurance. I am so scared rn pls someone calm my nerves. :frowning:

@filipinafoodie96 lol, I didn’t do my Ashe immunizations yet either. When’s it due?

I am not sure if things have changed since I transferred ( 2014 Transfer) but what in the bloody heck is this “Ashe immunization”? I didn’t have to do any health tests or any type of paperwork.

@bigvoot

Yes, the transfer orientation is only transfer students. Freshmen have their own. You’re also going to be bunched up with your majors for most of the day. This is a way for you to meet future classmates and your NSA will guide you on what courses to take, register for classes and etc.

@filipinafoodie96

1-You can always accept or decline your aid at any time. If you want more student loans, you can do it, if you want to reject your loans, you can do that as well. You just need to fill out some paperwork. It is a piece of cake.

2-You’re going to register for 3 courses and 3 course equals 12 units, which is full-time.

3- My transfer orientation back in 2014 was pretty good. It was a long day but it was cool meeting my peers and regisitring for my courses.

4- No clue.

5- No clue.

I think immunizations are due a week or so before fall classes start. I also know they’ll work with you if, for whatever reason, you are unable to get them all done by fall. But don’t get too far behind!

The Ashe Center is having an immunization fair in September. I would go and get it all over with!

I’m also the Aug. 7th orientation date!

Hey guys, so I got the email about UC student health insurance plan.

So do we automatically get health insurance by being a ucla student? Or do we have to go on some website and sign up for the UC health insurance?

@bigvoot – you are automatically enrolled. if you have health insurance already you need to waive the fee by september 20th via here: http://www.studenthealth.ucla.edu/Lists/ChannelContent/CustDispForm.aspx?ID=109&Title=WaivingUCSHIP&Channel=Insurance

@Tik1127 Thank you so much :slight_smile: I was very worried, since I need to still go over all my aid that needs to be checked again. Ahhh, 3 courses seems manageable…I just hope that I can adjust to the university standards, after coming from a community college in which I took more than 3 courses. Whew, I truly hope my new student orientation will be great as yours and full of information that can clearly give me an overview of everything to fulfill and what I need to look out for, since I’m still crazy over reaching every single deadline and requirement. As far as the immunizations, “ASHE immunizations” (I just short cut it), it’s one of the requirements that is listed on their website for all new incoming students to complete, this is the website: Go to the “Immunization Requirements” in http://www.studenthealth.ucla.edu/default.aspx

@bigvoot Woohoo! :slight_smile: Glad to know someone on here that’s going on the same day I am. I looked on the “New Student Checklist for Transfers” website and it states that the immunization history is due through the Ashe Secure Portal by September 25, 2017. However, the Ashe Center, will be hosting a vaccine fair for students on the first week of classes 9/24/17-9/28/17 to help students, and I think they can try to help ya out if you are concerned that you can’t get all the immunizations in time or a question, I suggest calling the Ashe Center main line (310) 825-4073. I believe they are open for summer hours Mon-Thurs from 8:00am-4:30 pm & Fri 9 am-4:30pm. @Edirol has the right info! The Ashe Center has more info too: http://www.studenthealth.ucla.edu/default.aspx
Go to the “Immunizations Requirements”

@uclahopeful2017 Woop woop! Feeling better knowing that there’s people going the same day as I am. Wheww, I have to breathe calmly since I’m stressing over finishing all requirements in time eeep :open_mouth:

@muveemaniac96 How was your overall experience for the New Student Orientation? like, what was something that stood out that you liked? I’m going Aug 7 and I’m nervous outta my mind. Also, since you’ve been through it, is there some hints/tips to know before hand? Thanks for any feedback. Much appreciated :slight_smile:
