FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Hey guys,

My orientation is coming up soon, next Monday!!! Anything I should bring to the orientation? Like laptop, backpack, comfy shoes, water bottle, and etc.

Thanks a bunch.

@filipinafoodie96 orientation was better than I thought to be honest. My biggest concern was how long the day was going to be, but it went by quickly and you get to meet people that are in the same major as you. Basically, you meet in front of Royce hall and, when orientation starts, you get in lines by last name and get a welcome packet. From there you are assigned your group (by major) and meet together with your student leader. Then, the rest of the day is basically presentations with everyone that is at the orientation. You and your group will also go to a presentation given by your department. Usually they will have flyers to hand out to you with information about your department and other resources. Then, towards the end of the day, you meet one on one with your student leader and they make a plan for you in regards to classes and other educational goals. At the very end, you will either go to their dorm or a computer lab and register for your classes.

You get to eat with your group at the dining halls or at the cafes on campus, which is pretty awesome cause UCLA food is the best.

It’s a really relaxed and easy day in my opinion. They suggest you sign up for 3 classes for the upcoming quarter, so maybe think about the 3 classes you’re wanting and see if they are available, (you will have time to do this after the first presentation because they will show you how to find classes at the beginning of the day).

Basically the day is presentations and class-planning. You’ll have a good time!

@bigvoot Definitely bring a laptop because you will be using it to research class availability and planning. Water is a must. You will be getting a welcome packet at the beginning of the day so a backpack might be necessary to carry it and your laptop + any other items you bring. There will be walking to different presentations and meetings throughout the day, but any shoes should be fine. You can bring a snack or two also. It’s a pretty chill day altogether though.

if a course is double listed, if I choose to enroll in one or the other, it still would be the same class right? Because one of its listings is a 120 seat sized class, and the other says its 24.

Hi everyone.I am planning to transfer in fall 2018 and I’m just wondering if i get any chances to get into UCLA. I have a 3.59 GPA at this moment. I have several academic awards and I join one club since the first semester i’m in CCC. Can you guys give me some advice, please?

btw my major is civil engineering.

@uclahopeful2017
If the course starts with the letter M, that means it’s crossed listed in multiple departments. You can take any of them and it’s all the same. The number of seats only show how many are open for each specific department. If you are registering for a seat outside of your department, just make sure there are no restrictions that say it’s only open to majors or minors during first pass.

@KnightKing It’s possible, some colleges at easier to get into than others. What is your major?

@KnightKing Definitely think about graduating through your school’s honors program if they have it. Even if you wont have any honors credits to show at the time you complete the application, it will still show your future plans and initiative. Also, write well-organized and creative responses to the personal response questions on the application. Discuss your extracurriculars, activities, volunteering/internships, or anything else that shows who you are as a student and a person.

@JC2017 and @muveemaniac96 My major is civil engineering. I didn’t join honor program because it doesn’t benefit any type of engineering :frowning:

@KnightKing your overall is a little too for the engineering college but UCLA looks at major GPA as well.

So the move-in dates for on campus housing is 6-7 days prior to the start of classes, but if you’re living in the university apartments, your move-in date is the day before classes begin.

Hey guys, how long do we have before we can request for certain roommates?

@bigvoot roommate assignments and specific room locations go out last week in August. It might already be closed to for request, but there still might be time before finalization occurs at the last week.

Sup guys, I accepted my roommate request that I got from someone I met in orientation.

But on the housing website it said that roommate request should have been done by June 3rd!

Is the roommate request I confirmed not going to be processed since I accepted it so late?

Thanks for the help!

2 questions:

Did everyone already accept their financial aid awards? Deadline for it? Will my financial aid change if I send in a waiver on UCSHIP?

The two online courses to do is the Financial Wellness Requirement and the “Think About It” course right? I’m not missing anything???

Any help will be appreciated thanks.

Is it worth to get the GradGuard insurance if you’re living in the dorms?

Hi all!

I attended orientation, and I have signed up for three classes for the fall. However, I want to change one of my classes when my enrollment opens up again. Can anyone provide any info about the upper division electives that are available for ALL students, regardless of major and without any pre-reqs?? I cannot find a list of these courses anywhere! Any knowledge would be appreciated.
