Fall 2017 UPenn Transfer Thread

Hi guys! Who else is applying to Penn as a transfer for the fall of 2017? Anybody think that they could chance me?

Current Sophomore, Applying as a Junior
Current University: US News and World Report Top 25 College
Current GPA: 3.9
SAT: 2290
High school GPA: 3.5

College EC’s:

  • Worked at a financial firm this past summer and working at a different firm this spring
  • Founded an Entrepreneurship Club and student publication at my school
  • Professional Business Fraternity
  • Staff writer for the school newspaper
  • Founded a non-profit organization in high school that is still active
  • Part of the Consulting Club and Financial Group

You certainly have a very good shot! Nothing is guaranteed, but a 3.9 from a t25 college will definitely stand out. I would apply to other ivy league schools to increase your chances.

Can you chance me as well? All advice and comments are appreciated!

Hey can you chance me? Applying as a Sophomore

New SAT: 1400 (780 M, 620 CRW)
College GPA: 3.9 (after 2 terms)

Volunteer at VCA Cat Hospital of Philadelphia

Wow. I thought there would be more posts on this thread. I am also applying as a biomedical engineering student.
For those above applicants who wanted to chance, I think the stats and ECs all look the same for a majority of applicants here, but the deciding factor would definitely be the essays and recommendation letters. As long as you have your essays and recommendation letters polished, you will definitely be a competitive applicant.

@sleighride4life I’m also applying as a bioengineering transfer! Definitely thought there would be more activity on the penn transfer threads especially since it seems like more and more students apply for transfer every year

Might as well join the bandwagon here. Let me know what you guys think!

As far as UCLA, I am currently a pre-business economics major with a 3.82 GPA. My extracurricular activities carried over from high school as well as new activities from college are strong, although not SUPER exceptional. I also am posting my high school stats in case it may provide a better “chance me”

High School Stats:
weighted GPA: 4.7
UC GPA: 4.35
unweighted GPA: 3.96
SAT: 2200 (670 WR, 730 MA, 800 WR)
Subject Tests: Math 2 (800), US History (660 - ouch i know)
Class Rank: top 10% at competitive public high school
AP Scores: Calculus BC (5), US Government (5), Macroeconomics (4), Psychology (4), United States History (5), English Language and Composition (4), European History (3)

College Stats:
3.82 GPA
UCLA College Honors
UCLA Dean’s Honors List
UCLA NSCS Honors Society

Personal Information:
Asian Male
California resident
Financially stable

Essays I would rate as 7.5-8.5/10.
Recs are decent - unfortunately at UCLA, class sizes are like 500 students so professors are hard to reach. Therefore, I had to ask my TAs for a letter of rec. I’m confident that they sent at least decent recommendations, but not coming from professors might be a disadvantage.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

@armadaswim Are you applying to the Wharton School or CAS?

@he1234 Wharton!

@armadaswim Same here. Would you say your reason for transferring is a solid reason? Also are you applying to as a freshman to enter as a sophomore?

@he1234 well, frankly put, Economics at UCLA is very under-emphasized here. I wish to pursue a career in business, but UCLA has little resources for their Econ majors. Most resources go towards engineering/life science majors. I just feel very neglected in a 40,000 student population university. Class planning also sucks. I’m often stuck taking classes I don’t really need but am forced to take because classes fill up so quickly. Priority enrollment is given to NCAA and Regent Scholars, and everyone else is sort of left to fend for themselves. I could go on and on but that’s the gist. And yes I’m a freshman to enter as a sophomore if I get the lucky opportunity to attend UPENN or any of the other universities I am applying to.

@armadaswim Oh well I wish you good luck buddy. Hopefully, we will both be attending Wharton next year.

@he1234 for sure dude, how about you? why do you want to transfer?

@armadaswim I need to be closer to my current business venture.

Wow they got through applications a lot faster than I expected

hiii Im also at ucla!! wait I want to know who you are! Im a sophomore - not bus-econ but im in a business frat. this is so interesting!

@shellbear cool! what major are you?

Decisions come out tomorrow 5 PM EST! Good luck to everyone!
