I saw that there are separate threads for the UC campuses so I decided to make a thread for all Campuses. Feel free to post your applying stats and ask to get chanced and later in april and may post your decisions ( if you want to ) and allow for transfer students in years to come to have a look at the stats and what not of transfer students
I applied to UCD, UCB,UCI, UC Santa Cruz, UC San Diego, UCLA as well as two private schools
I am applying in the college of letters and sciences, my major is Biology in general but applied under biological sciences, human physio in a few of these schools

GPA if all goes well at the end of spring will be a 3.68
I know the UC’s dont taken spring grades into account while making their decisions but if I were to get waitlisted then I think they would probably ask for spring grades.

jeez, you need 2 semesters of calc for political science now? wow
anyways, what are your target schools?
Calc isn’t a prereq for poli sci, but it does fulfil some general ed requirements.
I’m Political science and I want to do Econ as well, if not as a major then as a minor, which is why I need the 2 semesters of calc. My target schools: Davis, San Diego, UCSB, Reach would be Berkeley and UCLA.
First post here! College Confidential has been my go-to source for lots of useful information (and added stress lol!) for many years for me, so I’m glad to finally be able to contribute!
Applied: UCB, UCSD, UCD, UCSC
Major: Astrophysics/Physics
Overall GPA: 3.69-3.70
IGETC completed; all major prep courses completed except for one physics class (currently enrolled and it looks like I’m going to get an A!)
TAG: UCSC
ECs: Math tutor, student assistant for the State of California, MESA member, Phi Theta Kappa member, participated in the 2017 MESA Leadership Retreat, participated in UCB’s SEP program, recipient of my college’s Outstanding Women Award, was on the Dean’s List for multiple semesters, and I am a part of UCB’s TAP program. Basically I don’t have a lot of ECs due to the lack of ECs related to my major in my area and also the fact that I’ve been working at least 20 hrs/wk every week since I turned 18. I am mostly self-supporting as far as finances go, so I can’t really compromise on my work schedule at all. My essays are alright; 6.5/10 I’d say. My TAP coordinator liked them. I tried really hard to play up my achievements without qualifying them with sob stories about my disabilities and/or life circumstances (I have ADHD and had to go to school part-time for a good portion of my college career due to familial circumstances that led to me moving out on my own), so I’m hoping I struck a good balance there. Context is important but I’m always afraid of coming off as too whiny.
I’m open to people chancing me but I can already tell that UCB is going to be a far reach since I’m just on the cusp of the average admitted GPA for their astrophysics major and I’m also finishing my last major requirement this semester. I feel pretty confident about my chances for the other three colleges. I’ve already convinced myself that UCSC is the best place to go lol, so no hard feelings if UCB isn’t in my future!
I’m really excited for everyone here. We’re in the home stretch – no matter where we end up going, we have made it! I am proud of you all and you should be proud of yourselves too.
@GoldAstrNana I wouldn’t limit myself to just UCSC, as you have a shot at all the schools you applied to
As you said, you’re pretty much right at the 25th percentile (just a bit above) for your major for Cal. The TAP certification is going to help a ton. A respected source online (AskMsSun) said that TAP certification makes a candidate 2.3 times more likely to get accepted.
@GoldAstrNana since your overall GPA is borderline, how’s your major GPA? A strong major GPA, especially in a tough major like yours, can make a borderline GPA look much better to admissions counselors. It shows them that you can handle the coursework for their major, and that you might’ve just slipped up on some elective/unrelated classes
Aw thanks @ericbadmon! I think my major GPA is about 3.68ish, so still not super competitive. These are my grades:
Calc I - B
Calc II & Calc III - As in each
DE - A
Linear Algebra - A
Phys 1 (kinematics) - B
Phys 2 (E&M) - A
Phys 3 - In Progress
Astr320 (my campus’ equivalent to an Intro to Stars & Galaxies course) - A
Astr310 (my campus’ equivalent to an Intro to Planetary Astronomy course) - B
Unfortunately I think the B in Astr310 was the final nail in the coffin for my major GPA and subsequently my Berkeley chances. That was the one class I thought I deserved an A in. The B was hard to swallow since I knew I was putting forth my best work and it was largely the result of my professor’s extremely subjective way of grading (over half of the class was failing, which I have honestly never witnessed before in my entire academic career at my CC). It was incredibly frustrating to me. He even told me he was shocked to find out that I got a B (and he checked his math twice) because he thought that I was the best in the class…but apparently not good enough to change the grade lol. Sigh, alas, UCSC is still pretty good for my major so I’m not worried about my grad school chances.
Okay, I’ll bite here.
I’m a CSU transfer so we’ll see how this goes.
Applied: Berkeley, Davis, Santa Cruz, San Diego, and Santa Barbara
UC GPA: 3.65-3.7 I’m not sure how they calculate/what exactly transfers
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Yes
Major: Sociology,
Essays: They’re strong, I think. They’re interesting and I think they enhance my application. But I know nobody really reads them.
ECs: decent, haven’t done anything amazing but they’re unique and are all major-related. Shows passion and commitment.
Being a CSU transfer, I know my chances are probably not the best but I hope someone bites. Or at least takes the time to read my essays.
I was accepted by UCSC! Super excited. Still waiting on other decisions.
@GoldAstrNana Congratulations!
UCSD starts coming out tomorrow supposedly! And UCSB starts coming out on Tuesday! Who else is nervous af?
@hailey5799 I thought that the decisions tomorrow were only for freshman admits. Where did you see about transfers finding out tomorrow?
@ridiarte UCSD transfer thread small ant of transfers hear back today the rest are end of April.
I hate how it’s all on a rolling basis! I thought UCSC was all at once but last year some people found out in May. Argh.
@OhWhatsHerName I think UCB releases their decisions all at once, but definitely not UCSC and I think UCD and UCSD are also rolling out their admit decisions this year.
First time posting in this thread, hello! College Confidential has been so helpful this year with stats for transferring. My stats are:
Overall/UC GPA: 3.84
Major GPA: 4.0
Major: Pre-History
EC: Nothing really, I just wrote about working to support my family’s bills.
TAP: Yes
I only applied to UCLA, UCB, UCSD, and I TAG-ed to UCSB. My GPA might be considered low for UCLA/UCB, but I’m applying to a non-impacted major with TAP so I’m hoping it helps, even a little!
