FALL 2018 UCI Irvine Official Transfer Thread

mine says received but i think that is what it has always said. Hope they get the rest of decisions out soon

@Kenson123 The end of decisions are until the 30th so we will all hear back by then whether its acceptance, waitlist or rejection. Let’s not give our hopes up yet! (:

Anyone know how selective the UC’s are for transfers? Like which school would be the most selective based on the past? It seems pretty random tbh…

Just got into Davis so I’m wondering if UCI is more or less selective than Davis

just to ease some spirits my friend was accepted last year on the 28th for mechanical engineering. there’s always hope. we will all end up where we need to be

@hellooall I’m in the same boat and completely depends on the major. Heres some acceptance statistics by the MAJOR. You can find UC davis’s statistic report and compare it to UCI’s below and look at your major specifically.

This has all the transfer stats for all UCs

@Twenmi thanks !

So is the Regents scholarship automatically given to those transferring to UCI from CC who make it into the Honors program?

I keep seeing a lot of people jumping to conclusions! Guys don’t give up hope, there is still time! I do believe that the acceptances come in waves and I’m sure there will be another huge wave that goes out next week. :)>-

Just got accepted yesterday for the biological sciences with a science gpa of 3.34 don’t give up hope friends.

They’re still sending out acceptances !

@thestrange1 congrats!

isn’t it supposedly easier to get into UCs as a transfer? why was the acceptance rate so low across the board last year

@mafuyuu Yes, it is much more straightforward for a transfer applicant to get into a UC. However, the fact that California has a exponentially growing population with a strong emphasis on education means that the acceptance rates will only continue to drop as more and more qualified applicants apply into the UC system.

Acceptance rates for freshman applicants this last year:
UCLA: 14% UCB: 16% UCSD: 24% UCI: 28% UCSB: 32% UCD: 37% UCSC: 43% UCR: 46% UCM: 67%

All of these numbers have dropped and will continue to drop

@choukevin i think those numbers are wrong.

@choukevin UCR 46%? No disrespect to UCR, but are you sure lol.

@ImJustaPerson Correct me if I’m wrong - regardless, I think it’s pretty evident that acceptance rates will continue to drop as UC schools continue to hit record amount of applicants every year

@choukevin Your numbers are off a bit according to https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/admissions-residency-and-ethnicity

2017, Freshman admits vs applicants:
Applicants Admits Percent
Berkeley 85045 14549 17.1%
Davis 70955 30762 43.4%
Irvine 85092 31063 36.5%
LA 102226 16456 16.1%
Merced 22576 15662 69.4%
Riverside 43672 24674 56.5%
SD 88448 30061 34.0%
SB 81824 26845 32.8%
SC 52969 26983 50.9%

Irvine’s acceptance rate:
2013 41.1%
2014 37.4%
2015 38.7%
2016 40.7%
2017 36.5%

So, it’s not necessarily true that the rate will always go down. Last year it was inordinately high (for reasons that were in the news), but it seems to be pretty consistent.

Does UCI consider alternative major when the transfer applicant is not transferring from a cc? I am confused because UCLA told me only cc transfer applicants with tag have the opportunity to have UCI consider their alternative major

@thestrange1 are you sure it was yesterday?
