Fall 2019 Transfer Admission

i didnt see a thread for this so i thought i should start one.

i saw that freshmen regular decision came out yesterday (3/29). so, that basically raised my anxiety.

i’m from maryland, but i currently go to private college in upstate ny. i want to transfer simply because the school does not suit my needs. in general, i’m im not happy here.

sat:1080, act: 21, hs gpa: 3.4, college gpa: 3.06. i applied to College Park, Townson and UMBC. i applied by the priority deadline for both umbc and umd. but for towson, i applied after the deadline and i still got in. from umbc, they asked me to send in my final transcript so they could give me a final decision. UMBC is my first choose, and I still have a good feeling i’ll get in. UMD i’m not so sure about.

I am a Maryland Resident currently at Montgomery College. I have a 3.4 College GPA, SAT:1030, HS GPA: 3.00. I’ve gotten into Towson Delaware and South Carolina. Everything I’ve read says they’ll probably come out closer to the end of the month. Although I’ve read they come out in two batches, one mid month one at the end. For people who applied really early and then right before the deadline.

Hey everybody! I am a MD resident too currently attending a school in Nashville TN. I currently have 37 credit hours and 15 in progress with a 3.6 GPA, didn’t submit my HS transcripts. I applied a couple of days before the priority deadline. I have not taken the UMD math requirement yet, I’m curious if that will affect my chances.

Hey guys! MD resident attending a Maryland community college. 3.3 GPA with 46 credits, 15 in progress with a current 4.0. In my school’s honors program, I’ve done quite a few community service events. I took a statistics course but I’m not sure if it meets UMD’s math requirement. A little scared that I might not get in, I applied late January. Good luck everyone!

I’m an OOS student from Florida that currently attends a CC. My GPA is 3.92 with 56 credits complete. I’ll be finishing up my AA degree during the summer and then hopefully transfer into UMD. I’ve done all of my credits at my current CC, but I did have 2 semesters at other institutions where I didn’t do well at all. None of those credits transferred to my current CC, so I hope UMD will primarily judge my current credits. I’m currently in Calc and have pre-calc/trig complete on my record, I’m not sure if that meets the UMD math requirement. I’m super scared since i’m Compsci and I know the competition is rough. Good luck, everyone!

if you’re currently taking calc, and have already taken pre-calc then you’re good to go with the math requirements.

i’ve only been at community college for one year and will have 28 credits at the end of the year. i’m currently taking calc and have finished all my other requirements. do you all think being a first year will affect me? i have a 3.4 and deans list

@ColleenC18 For being a first year, they’ll look at your high school achievements/GPA and take it into consideration for your decision. Your college grades and EC will probably play a 50% part in your decision.

oh okay, thank you! i didn’t have very good high school grades, however my college grades show they went up a lot! do you think they will like this upward trend or be stuck heavily with the fact that my high school grades weren’t too good?

@ColleenC18 i actaully feel like admissions like it when students improve in college. Because, college is expected to be a lot harder thank high school

Does anyone know when transfer admissions will be released? UMD is in my top 2 for OOS Universities and I’m feeling pretty anxious about it since I’m Compsci.

@MaplePecanFrap Most likely the week of the 22nd (Tuesday 23rd, to be exact) based on previous years’ decision release dates. I might be wrong though lol

In 2017 they came out on April 14th (my daughter transferred that year), but not everyone got their decision on the same day.

Hi everyone! Can anyone tell me what the financial aid at UMD is like for transfers? I just heard back from UMBC and got nothing in financial aid.

Hey guys, I got rejected from USG (B.S. in Biological Sciences program) do y’all think I’ll get rejected from UMDCP (B.A. in psychology, I’ve taken 5 classes in psych, all with A’s) ?

Is there no portal to check application status for UMD? I just noticed UMD has been the only college that hasn’t given me some type of portal login info lol.

Sorry for double posting, but does anyone know what the financial aid of UMD looks like for an OOS student? I’ve been wondering how much they offer in terms of financial help/scholarships.

its on your coalition!

@MaplePecanFrap UMD, from the rumors I have heard, does not give very much financial aid. I am not sure what OOS financial aid is like, but I do know there are some scholarships/grants they may consider you for.

Just got off the phone with UMD, and they said we should expect decisions at the end of April if we applied by the priority deadline:) Fingers crossed it’s a little sooner!
