Just wanted to start a thread for us prospective transfers. Saw a couple of these made for years past and they seemed to be informative. They also serve as a place for us to wildly speculate together if nothing else. Good luck everybody.
Hi! I love using these threads to just heighten my stress so I’m all for posting in here! I bet we won’t hear back until at least May 1st but for now we can all just cry together! Where are you transferring from @NigelTheCat
Where are you guys transferring from? Also I completed a Reed interview and it was quite disappointing lol
I am transferring out of community college in San Diego County. I applied to Reed and couple of UC’s, but Reed is my first choice. Through my searching I thought I saw some transfer folks that found out late April, I wanna say April 27th was a date I saw. I’m hoping for something like that, but not holding my breath. Also would hate to be waitlisted, as I have to move to attend and that shortens that timetable considerably. @coolbeans2021
Why did you find the interview to be lacking? @lizzzzzzz
I’m from California as well so we’re in the same boat
As for the interview, it was extremely short. I was told it would be 25-30 minutes, but the alumni seemed to waste a lot of that time by asking irrelevant questions that didn’t really have to do with me as a student, and the ending was very abrupt. I drove over an hour to the interview so I was a bit disappointed that she seemed uninterested in what I had to say, and it didn’t really feel like a conversation.
I thought maybe I was just too nervous and reflected that on to the alumni, but my other interviews with LACs were amazing and they gave me great advice for my applications. Maybe our personalities just didn’t mesh well : P
I went up there for a visit and had my interview with a current student. Initially, I was a bit let down that it wouldn’t be with someone more directly related to my admittance, but I enjoyed the conversation and hope that what the student interviewer conveys carries some weight. It’s a bummer yours seemed to be so disjointed and off-putting, especially since you traveled a ways to make it happen.
What interested you in Reed? I was really sold on the class size and how the faculty allows students to pursue their own academic interests in pretty deep detail. @lizzzzzz
If they appointed a student to conduct an interview then I’m sure it carries weight, especially if it went well.
I’ve applied to some UCs and other public schools but my targets are definitely LACs like Reed, since I enjoy small class sizes and overall student body. Reed has strong neuroscience and psychology programs, with labs on campus and others in close proximity. I agree that student can pursue their academic interests more intensely with the Junior Qual and senior theses for example. Especially without having to compete with thousands of other students in your department! What would you like to study there?
I’m interested in studying philosophy broadly, with specific interests in the philosophy of religion and mysticism and the history of philosophy. I want to eventually get a PhD and teach one day, another reason Reed appeals to me.
Awesome, best of luck! I think decisions will be released soon!
It seems that they’re even more late this year than last and maybe scrambling to do things. Did anyone see the post about the admission’s office scandal??? whoa … just makes it even harder for us transfers
what scandal? @coolbeans2021
Oh no… we might be waiting until mid-late May then
Hello all! I’m a student that was admitted as a transfer to Reed a couple years ago. If anyone has any questions about it feel free to PM me.
I’m really interested to see how our transfer admissions play out. In light of the recent Quest article, I hope Reed can manage a more realistic time table to give us our decisions.
Has anyone received any updates from Reed? I saw in another thread that someone received a decision yesterday. TIA
What thread? Haven’t yet
no updates yet
Please disregard my last post I see that it was posted on the Reed RD thread and for some reason it started with happy decision day it scared me for a second. My mistake ?
I haven’t heard anything back either, is it true that they sometimes only send decisions through regular mail?
