Fall 2020 Callaway at University of Texas

My daughter was just accepted into University of Texas Pre-Public Relations and is on the waiting list for a 4x4 at Callaway. Two questions: how likely is it that she gets in? (she’s #38) and she’s currently looking for roommates in the 4x4. Any ideas on the best way to get to know people and find roommates at UT Callaway.

We are in the same boat. My daughter just got in as well so we just submitted the housing app but I am not sure if she will get a good dorm choice since she did not apply earlier. Also, she would rather have her own bathroom or share it with one person. We live in California so we cannot tour until next month when we head to Austin. How are Callaway and Castilian in comparison to the on-campus dorms? Thanks!!

I would easily pick callaway over Castilian. Castilian is pretty old. Both of my daughters picked callaway over UT on campus dorms. But callaway is expensive. SRD is the best way to go IMO if you can get in.

@MBNAN We have not toured Callaway, but Castillian was completely renovated a few years ago. Our daughter will be there in the fall and we know many kids, 1 - 2 years older who have/are staying there with no complaints. It’s about 50% greek, we are told. Callaway has more students in greek life and someone mentioned that some of their rooms are on waitlist.

The 4x4 and 3x3 are on waitlist and those are the floorpans with individual bathrooms. As I mentioned, this past Sunday my daughter was number 38 on the waitlist and the manager felt like she had a great shot at getting in. Last year, number 120 or so got in. Many will be dropping their lease this month because they did not get in.

As for SRD, I know that this week they were accepting contracts. My bet is they are full. It’s a great place to live. My daughter is not a fan of dated stuff. I love it, but she preferred the more modern Callaway. And, also SRD does not have private bathrooms for most floorpans.

Would you recommend Callaway for an OOS incoming Freshman? I’m so confused by the amount of on-campus and off-campus options at UT

I think the off-campus housing is Callaway, Hardin, and SRD. Hardin and SRD are older and historic. I loved SRD when we toured. My daughter did not like the old feel and that they did not have rooms with their own bathroom. Callaway has lots of floorpans with baths for one or shared by two. All three are in a great location. I’ve heard the food is great. I’ve also heard they are all heavily greek. But, more expensive. SRD and Hardin are all girls.

Hey so when are roommates due? They sent out another form that’s due tomorrow. That seems early for it to be last call.

My daughter got into the 4x4 in Callaway, but now we’re facing serious roommate stress. She decided to go potluck and meet new people, but with everything shut down and orientation most likely virtual this summer, we may really be going into the roommate thing blind. Anyone out there know a good way to search for roommates that I can give her?

Glad I found this thread. My daughter is an incoming freshman from New York and liked Callaway. She even found a roommate. But my husband and I were concerned that if, because of Coronavirus, school is delayed, we won’t be able to get our money back. So we’re looking at the on-campus housing and we’re not sure what she’ll get. I’d love advice on good dorms. (I don’t remember them from the tour.) Thanks.

Hi - my son might be doing the same thing. He wants to live in Callaway and we are seriously considering
How has it been for your daughter
