Fall 2021 Transfer

Hi everyone! This is my first post here but I’ve made the decision to transfer from my current university to a new one for my sophomore year and really need some advice/guidance on what schools I could get into and where I should apply.

HIGH SCHOOL STATS:

  • I went to a competitive private school
  • 3.3 gpa (I know, not the best. I got a very serious traumatic brain injury, and had other significant personal/family problems. I wrote an additional essay about these circumstances and discussed how I am thriving now and made it a positive thing by talking about what I learned )
  • 1280 sat (I think I’ll be doing test optional though)
  • 1 AP course. 6 honors courses.
  • 6 clubs, lots of volunteer hours with great organizations, played lots of sports, got a few awards/honors, job experience, small art business and portfolio.

COLLEGE STATS-

  • I attend Clemson University as an out of state student
  • Undecided major but planning on being a Health sciences major and am taking classes to fit that.
    -3.8 gpa
  • Admitted into the honors college and now taking honors classes.
  • Member of 4 student organizations/clubs
  • Got an amazing letter of recommendation from my English Professor.
  • Really good essays. My transfer one is especially good. I wrote about being grateful for my time at Clemson, getting to know myself, becoming confident in my goals for the future, learning independence, developing a stronger worth ethic etc.

I would love to know what schools I have a shot at. I would LOVE to go to Boston College, but know this is a reach. I believe their average transfer GPA is 3.6 which I am above but since my high school stats are so average it probably won’t happen. I really hope some schools are able to realize my high school years aren’t a complete reflection of who I am as a student due to my rough circumstances. But, I love the whole vibe of BC so any recommendations of similar schools I would rly appreciate. Thanks!

You might have a better shot at transfer admission to some schools if you went for one more year, especially if you went to a community college for a year. A lot of schools give priority to CC transfers over 4-year college transfers. Also, if you have two full years of college, a lot of times they don’t even look at your high school transcripts. Depends on what your goals are. If it’s about getting into a particular school, like Boston, look at that school and see what they say they’re looking for and what their priorities are. Maybe it’s be worth waiting a year to go there? If it’s more about going now, well, then I guess you’ll see soon enough what your options are. If you don’t like any of them, consider trying again next year.
