Air fare is $300 cheaper from Greenville than Columbia to come back to CT for fall break. Any easy way to get to Greenville from Columbia. Student can't find anyone going in that direction.

tony - there is an sc poster with the screenname Greenville, who is from Greenville...Maybe you can PM then and work out a ride from them or another of their friends from Greenville. I think there are quite a few students from that area so hopefully it works out!

tony
the student can run a free classified ad in the daily gamecock looking for a ride

Just curious, how long does it take to drive to Greenville from USC? Thanks in advance for the info.

1.25 to 1.5 hrs approx.

Thanks for the info. So, it is basically about the same distance to Charlotte?

about the same distance to drive
S is flying out of Charlotte for Thanksgiving as there are direct Jet Blue flights with better timing for his needs.
OP... maybe S should look into those flights there may be more people going towards Charlotte...but I think pricing was similar to Columbia flights we did it for timing rather than price

Thanks for the info. Yesterday I really "panicked" because I realized that where I had booked "the inn" for parent's weekend, I had forgotten to book flights for my h and myself! It looked like I was not going to be able to get a flight to CAE from Newark or Philly, and I don't even want to tell you what kind of fares they were quoting! So, after finding out that Charleston was equally expensive, I thought I would pursue Charlotte....still outrageous! That is where Greenville came in.....still crazy! After all of it I decided to use "points" to pay for the tickets (that was not easy either! one cc company said it was too late to use points for the trip! thank goodness easy pass took the points - wait until my h sees how many points it cost us...he will not be happy!). Oh well, live and learn. Next year I will make sure that I do the airline at the same time as the hotel reservation.....I now know ALL of the options hopefully! - I was starting to think about Amtrak. Has anyone ever done that? Just curious!

Has anyone ever taken Greyhound bus? There is a route from Columbia to Charlotte with one quick stop in Rock Hill. Has anyone had any expereinces with Greyhound? The station is only 1/2 mile from Capstone....Just curious as well

cece - I just checked all of the flights the other day and could find no good ones either. My lovely d called and started saying how it would be nice if we came down for parent's weekend ( even though the plan has been that we weren't). After looking at the flight options I finally told her it was not happening ( as we will be seeing her the previous week anyway!! )

When we were doing the college visits the previous year I did actually fly into RDU and rent a car. It was so cheap to fly to RDU on Southwest and then drive to Columbia (about 3 1/2 hours.) If I was desperate I might try that again - LOL.
I checked amtrak before - it was horrible. The schedule would take forever and it's not that cheap.
OTOH - the last time I went down to Columbia I purchased my ticket kind of late ( about 8 days in advance) and it was only $212 r/t from Philadelphia to Columbia - I think they had a lot of empty seats they wanted to fill.
