So I just noticed that fall break is over a week. Do most people go home? Anything else in the calendar a new student should know? thanks

Some people do go home for fall break, especially if they live close by/within a state or two away, but a lot of people stay at Reed or go with friends to the coast or something, which is a really fun experience. I went home last year, but I’m planning on sticking around this year.

As for the calendar, our winter break is a lot longer than most schools’, but this past year was an extra week longer than usual, so I don’t think it’ll be as long this winter. (It’s still pretty long.)
Other than that, pretty straight forward breaks. We have labor day off, then fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break and spring break.

What do Reedies who live really far away from college do for Thanksgiving? It’d be nice if I weren’t the only one sticking around that break, since I live on the East coast XD

Some go home. My boyfriend, who’s from the east coast, went home for Thanksgiving break, but not fall break.
I had friends who stayed and made a Thanksgiving dinner together. I wasn’t there, but the pictures looked lovely. =] You definitely won’t be the only one on campus. Chances are, you’ll have quite a few friends who will be around.

Our D was in the Outing Club and organized a spring break canoeing trip in Washinton, driving a full Reed van (she was van certified, anyone can be) to get there. Reed contributes to the cost of such activities.

For Thanksgiving – Depends. One year my son stayed and I sent him a giant ham, other years he came home. There was an unofficial school Thanksgiving meal, either in his dorm or the SU, but he found the food really disappointing compared to mine. :-)
