Fall Dorm Assignment Out!

Ok, I think a lot of people here are being kind of absurd with all of the complaining and wanting to switch out. Haha now that said, here is my bone:

I was told by representatives in both the Honors Program and Admissions that if I would get first priority for housing if I was an Honors student and a National Merit Finalist and decided not to live in Hume. They used the word guaranteed when I asked if I would get into East Hall (the engineering dorm). Not only did I not get into East, but I didn't even get any of my Top 3. All of my dates were early and I was on time with all payments etc.

I'm still in the Tolbert area, so I could get over the fact that I didn't get one of my top choices. One thing that really has me confused, though, is that my roommate is a sophomore. I'm an incoming freshman. I've never heard of this before. Is this normal or what? I think that would put me at an awkward disadvantage in terms of social life and what not.

I've already decided to call the Admissions and Honors representatives that I spoke with concerning the dorms (Benita Bannis and Reagan Gartman). Are my chances for getting into one of my top choices good? And am I really supposed to stay with a sophomore for my first year?

I'm still nervous because I haven't heard anything. I checked all my spam folders and everything... nothing. I checked the housing.ufl.edu portal and it said my application was complete and all paid for... yet I still have heard nothing. I'll call on monday, but has anyone else not heard anything?

Never heard about that guarantee before; it could be true.

Its not uncommon to room with a sophomore of higher if you requested an area which upperclassmen can live. Usually there is a small percentage though. I doubt it will affect you social life. In the murphree area its possible for freshmen to be paired with juniors and seniors.

You can try and see what happens, but Admissions and Housing are different depts and admissions doesnt have control over housing and visa versa.

I would call the housing office and ask about it on monday (8am-5pm) maybe it was just a glitch when they were sending out emails.

East Hall
engineering community represent.

What's the difference between East Hall and West Hall? I'm listed as chemical engineering or chemistry. I'm assigned to East Hall of Hume though.

There isn't a difference, just two buildings.

The correct terminology is Hume East and Hume West. There is also another hall called East hall which has the "engineering community."

So in Hume your grouped with people doing things similar to what you are doing.

No your not.

but you said East hall has the engineering community so i just assumed that the other halls had a similar grouping system.

Some dorms have residential communities but it not mandatory that you participate or even be that major to live there.

For more info: http://housing.ufl.edu/AIE/ResCommunities.htm

So yeah what's this Global Living Learning Community thing about at Yulee. Not to sound rude or anything but is it where UF takes the majorirty of international students and places them with American students so each can learn about each other's culture, country, etc?

lol no. i think it has to do with recycling and keeping the earth clean, global warming, etc. Weaver Hall is usually where all the international students are put in.

I called today and they said that it was an error that I didn't get the email. I'm in Hume East!

me too. rm 234 hume east to be exact

I called Housing today and I have a permanent triple. =(

Does anyone know what the layout and dimensions of this room are? (anyone have pictures or a floor plan?)
Has anyone lived in a permanent triple? How did that turn out?

Thanks for any input!

Hi, everyone! The last time I posted here was during my "deferred!" dilemma, haha.

Anyways, I got my dorm assignment. I'm in Broward, 3rd floor. Though I didn't get the dorm I wanted, I am rooming with the friend I requested so that's good. We're also going to be with one other person. She has a MySpace so we were able to find her and see what she's like. She seems pretty cool. I don't think I will have a problem with her.

The only thing I seem to be worried about is sharing a bathroom with the whole hallway. It just bothers me! Hopefully I'll get used to it..

All I know is that its bigger than a normal double. Look at the positive side, you are rooming with two friends (hopefully the friendship doesn't change). <--- its funny how some end (e.g friend sleep with friends gf, friend walking in on their friends doing xyz.)

You get use to it, even though I heard the girls side can be nasty esp weekends.

Yulee-Mallory-Reid people have a more private communal bathroom, so it shouldn't be a big deal for people there.
