Wondering about my schedule. So far, as of now, I have 15-16 credits total. I think freshmen are allowed a max. of 18, but my schedule can't be fixed too much. Do you think that this is a good freshmen schedule? (it was recommended by the academic advising book):

English 101
Applied Music 109
Spanish 203
Music 151
TIDE 109 (which is only for Tulane students-safety seminar)
Applied Music 221
Ultimately Applied Music 217

So, all in all, this ends me up with 15-17 credits. It's fifteen now, but it could be 17. No, actually, ti's 15-16 credits. Max. is 18 credits, but my schedule seems..too easy!?!? Anybody else with this weird dilemma.

My daughter had 15 credit her first semester last year (including TIDES). It was fine. You'll have plenty to do and get used to during the first semester.

Thats a pretty standard freshmen schedule. Usually, the most difficult class is the foreign language class either because a lot of people never really learned the language in high school or are a couple years removed. I had 18 credits my first semester at Tulane, but I did that on purpose after having taken only 12 for the katrina semester at Rutgers. I was so bored on 12 credits.

I was enraged that Tulane limited you to 18 credits the first semester. ENRAGED. I had wanted to take 19.

That was until I actually got to college! I quickly dropped from 18 to 15.

College is different than high school. Individual classes are more demanding, so you take less of them. You don't have math-english-science-social studies-language-elective every day like high school. You take 4 or 5 classes, and spend less time in class and more time studying out of class.

as opposed to what vinin said, i find spanish classes at tulane to be laughably easy. if you have handal or mckeeby for 203 expect an automatic a. if you have george-hirons she's a little harder i hear.

Giving yourself a first semester with a lighter load to adjust is a good idea, anyway, particularly if you're working, too. You have plenty of time later to raise the level to 20 hours or beyond if that's something you can handle.
