I'm hoping that someone can clear up the difference between Chapman's Status of 'Fall Grades Requested' vs. 'Roll to Regular Decision'

Does the Fall Grades status mean that as soon as Fall Grades are sent into Chapman, that student will get an Acceptance or Denial immediately? Or does this mean that as long as the Fall Grades are same or better than previous transcript they are accepted? Is it the same as accepted?

Why would they have this separate status from Deferral? What is the difference?

Is the only difference that Fall Grades will get their decision sooner, rather than waiting until March for regular decision?

It means you will not be rejected or accepted until the Regular Decisions are made. You are no longer being considered for an Early Admission. This Regular Decision will depend upon your fall grades and how you stack up against the other applicants with your same major whom are also being considered for a Regular Decision. For this regular Decision they will look at you SAT and or ACT scores. They will look at you overall weighted and unweighted GPA. They will look at your ECs. They will look and see if your grades have improved during this fall semester compared to your previous semesters. Is there an upward or downward trend with your grades; do you show that you finally get it even if your previous semesters your grades were not that great; that you now have the knowledge & drive required to obtain good grades in the future at Chapman U. Any University wants their students to graduate on time, not have a problem passing their classes and be a credit to their school. It also means they have not received your fall grades from the school that you are presently attending. But even when they do receive these fall grades your decision will not be made until all the Regular Decisions have been made. I hope this helps.

So, the status of ‘Fall Grades’ is pretty much the same status as ‘Roll to Regular Decision’ because that requires Fall Grades to be submitted also.

@coral

I have been a CC lurker, but just joined now so that I could reply to your question. My daughter was also asked to submit her fall grades so she sent an email to the admission counselor from our state asking what exactly that meant. Here is what his response was…

"We will be waiting for your semester grades to be finalized, and cannot make a decision based on the mid-term updates that youve sent.

Your file is still considered Early Action and although your decision will be delayed until the receipt of these grades, you will be notified much earlier than the Regular Decision applicants.

Thanks for getting in touch,"

I hope this reassures you that you are still an EA candidate.

Thanks, 8pawsnfeet, for your informed reply to coralbrook. Sukahjoy, where did you get your info?

To Andi0527,

Coralbrook in a previous post on 12-24-2012 stated the following:

“The Web Advisor said ‘Roll to Regular Decision’ sometime earlier in the week before the letters were mailed out. So, the deferral letter was just a formality.

Still not sure what ‘Fall Grades’ status means. Maybe someone will get a letter (either acceptance or deferral) that will explain what that status means.”

So Coralbrook D was told on thru the Web Advisor that her application was ‘Roll to Regular Decision’.

Again it is my understanding that Coralbrook thru her post means that the Web Advisor states both ‘Roll to Regular Decision’ and ‘Fall Grades Requested’ regarding her D’s application.

Ah. I read only THIS thread and answered only Coralbrook’s question from THIS thread. I interpreted her question to be about the hypothetical kid who got the “Fall Grades” message, which is what the Chapman AdmissionsRep addressed in that post I cited upthread here.

I don’t think her question in THIS thread was about her own kid (who I guess was Rolled to Regular Decision). I believe her question was about the “Fall Grades Requested” kids, and whether those kids are still considered EA (yes) and would they hear about a decision earlier than the regular decision date if they submitted their fall grades (yes).

I doubt if anyone can truly answer the question about “If the kids fall grades are the same or better than prior grades submitted, will the kid be accepted?” I’d guess there are no guarantees for the Fall Grades kids, or the Rolled to RD kids. I’ve told my own Fall Grades kid it’s a “Deferral Light” and anything can still happen…The decision he gets next may STILL be “Rolled to Regular,” denied, waitlist, who knows???

@Jane345…“deferral light”…I like that! I guess we are in the same boat. I am optimistic that if my D’s first semester grades are on the same, or a better, trend, than when she applied, she should have good news, but as I recently posted on another thread, college admissions is a c**pshoot and we will know when we know

On a side note, of all of the schools that my D has applied to, we have communicated the most (maybe 3 times) with the Chapman admission counselor for our state and he is very quick to respond to our questions, usually the same day. Saves a lot of the guesswork. I guess this is the benefit of a small school :)

Coralbrook started the thread with this:
I’m hoping that someone can clear up the difference between Chapman’s Status of ‘Fall Grades Requested’ vs. ‘Roll to Regular Decision’

So, she wasn’t saying her D got rolled to regular decision and fall term grades requested. She was asking the difference between the two. I would take the reply that 8pawsnfeet got from Chapman as the legitimate reason.

Thank you everyone. Yes, my daughter is deferred and I should have read through the Admin posts more carefully. She is so anxious that we are really trying to understand exactly how she sits right now.

I would also like to say that her Admin Rep has been very responsive even though she has not really sent too many emails because she knows that they are really busy right now. I just wish we knew how many apps they got EA, how many were accepted, rejected or deferred and how many new RDs they got. Oh, and how many tor ber specific major? Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

I was deferred too. It may be because of your selected major, not necessarily your grades/scores. However, they still want you to send your midyear grades.
