D has submitted Allegheny’s “Leadership Application” a few weeks ago under RD (not ED). Yesterday we received an Email blast invite to attend the “Fall into Allegheny” program on November 13-14.

Question: Since we have already visited Allegheny this Summer, would this be “helpful” towards D getting an acceptance letter, especially when a Trustees’ Scholarship might make the difference in enrolling?

I was hoping to take D for an overnight visit AFTER she (hopefully) receives a letter of acceptance … but this could take weeks or months since she applied RD.

Apart from D experiencing life on campus, the only important remaining task we want to complete is a meeting with the pre-professional advisor to get some questions answered about Allegheny’s pre-med program in Biology … and the schools MCAT preparation & acceptance track-record to med schools.

If you have already visited, I don’t think it will make a difference if you attend this or not. Colleges know that students have a lot of stuff going on and these planned programs don’t always fit into your schedule. Showing interest through a visit at any time should be fine.

Shennie - thanks for your reply. I believe you are correct but somehow I thought that once an application was submitted, the college was keeping track of visits to gauge the seriousness of the applicant. Perhaps I am reading too much into the process but at this point, I don’t want to invest more time in a college until D has received an acceptance.

Instead of visiting a second time , they may be doing interviews in your area. If they offer you an interview or have a Allegheny night in a local hotel she should do that.

Scoutmom9 - We are a little more than 1 hour from Allegheny so visiting is not a big hassle except for wasting our time should D not get admitted (that would be a shocker) -or- if there was no Trustees’ Scholarship offer. The rep Allegheny sent to D’s school recognized her from our visit in August (she actually lives somewhere in WV, south of our home in Pittsburgh). Still if Allegheny wanted an interview as part of qualification for the Trustees’ Scholarship we would arrange that. My understanding is Allegheny Admissions is digesting the binding ED pool (11/15 deadline) and after that, will consider the RD Leadership applicants. Since D has already been admitted to Pitt and Ga.Tech, it’s frustrating to have to wait for Allegheny to reply until late December or early January. Thanks, YJ76
