Fall of Senior Year Abroad and College Applications

I am currently debating studying abroad the fall of my senior year. I was curious to know whether or not it would be unwise to do so while trying to apply for college and needing to get teacher and guidance counselor recommendations along with that being the fall of senior year. And whether or not if it could be done with hard work and a lot of communication? Thanks, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

shamless bump...

Do it! You'll get plenty people wondering why you would even want to do something like that and a lot of, "But you'll miss prom," but it's totally worth it. You can finish most of your applications this summer and get recommendations at the end of this year.

If you have the chance, I would absolutely jump at it! I wish I could have done something like that during high school! You can get recommendations lined up this spring before you leave, and give everyone your email address in case they need to contact you. Seriously, with the ease of communication over the internet these days, you can do anything!

Everyone I know (teachers, guidance counselors, etc) always says specifically NOT to go abroad during senior first semester b/c of the fact that it will be too hectic to get college apps done.
It's probably harder than ppl on here are making it sound.

^I would agree. People are being way too idealistic.

personally, i would wait to study abroad in college. that's what i'm doing.
the first semester of senior year can be incredibly hectic and stressful. on top of college apps, interviews, essays, SAT retakes, art supplements, nagging teachers for reccs and eating, inhaling, and sleeping, you've got school work. maybe you're one of those rare disciplined people who finish their apps during the summer and send all their regular apps before the early deadline. if you aren't that freakishly/wonderfully disciplined, don't do it! it would suck to find yourself in a foreign country in the library typing an essay instead of exploring the sights.
