I won't be able to attend any of the summer orientations at UT Austin because of my job, but I did apply for the 2 day fall orientation that is right before school will start. So I'm starting to wonder, will I miss out on choosing the classes I want? I guess what Im trying to say is that will UT Austin reserve some seats in classes for students with my situation?

Well you might have a harder time but at the same time, usually people forget to pay their tuition bills and their classes are all automatically dropped, so sometimes you can squeeze yourself in during the open add/drop period.

good luck

well, considering that most of us int'l are also going then, maybe.
I emailed the new student department a month ago, and they assured me that I wouldn't be placed at any disadvantage for classes.......BUT, I'm not sure.

You will still be able to get into the classes that you need for your degree program but you may end up with 8 a.m. classes and late afternoon or evening classes (there are labs that run from 6 to 10 p.m.).

If there is a particular class that you want, you can email the instructor, explain your situation, and ask to be placed on a waitlist for the class.

BTW, the advantage to a summer orientation is that you would be able to drop/add classes throughout the summer after you initially register instead of waiting until just before school starts.

I'm going for the fall orientation too.
