Fall/spring financial aid is up

Awful. Not nearly as good ad last year....

I seriously hope that this isn’t final, because I agree that this is terrible. I noticed that Student loans, as well as the FSU Differential Grant I’ve gotten each of the last 3 years is no longer there.

My total financial aid package is $6500. That’s a far cry from the $16k I got this year and the $18.5k last year. That also will barely cover my tuition, much less anything else.

Yep, I think I might have to contact them about this.

I received $5500 for this year. I am an incoming freshman and am wondering where/how can I make up for the rest of tuition? And is it easy to get a job on campus?

Kyle, if you don’t mind me asking, is that $5500 including any student loans? I’m trying to figure out if somehow the university doesn’t think I’m eligible for them anymore, or if they just haven’t listed any student loans for anyone.

It is an unsubsidized federal stafford loan

they’re giving me 1.8k on the fsu differential grant, and they want me to get 5.5k from stafford loans…what the hell fsu?

p.s. is the only money fsu gives under “fsu differential”? because if it is im ***d

for bright futures i got 2280, 5550 in pell grant, 1800 in fsu differential grant (too low), and 3k first generation grant for a total of 12630…they are offering me 5.5k in loans

Student Loans are part of the financial aid package you’re offered. You don’t have to accept them, you know.

What concerns me is that the financial aid I was offered includes no student loans, nor does it include the FSU Differential Grant that I’ve been given the last 3 years.

I’ve had multiple issues with the FSU Financial Aid office in the past, and it seems like they’re definitely trying to get me back during my senior year…

Can someone help me please? I just see 5500 in stafford loans, no bright futures or pell grant or fsu differential grant…does that mean I didn’t get any of that or am I just looking in the wrong place? I know that I should be getting bright futures, I did my hours and have the required GPA and test scores and everything, am I supposed to submit a separate bright futures application or something? I did the FAFSA.

I’m really hoping this is not final. It seems from these few posts, that things may be missing. All I see is the FSU Differential Grant for $900 a semester. No mention of Pell Grant. And what about Work Study? Would that be shown on here? Boy, I hope this all just needs updating…

In past years, I’ve had things on my financial aid be adjusted as late as the day financial aid was disbursed- which is a few days after the semester starts.

However, I’ve never had an award add itself to my profile after the initial uploading. This is why I’m concerned, although I would say that it’s definitely a work in progress. I would give it until Monday before I raised the red flag.

This is actually about a week earlier than I was told Financial Aid would be available (I was told it would be available next week) so I am not sure if it’s finalized.

For Work Study, the only way FSU offers it to you is if you put on your FAFSA that you would like to be considered for it. After that they offer it mostly to seniors, then juniors, and down until the funds are all awarded. Some will decline the offer (I did last year) and then they will filter it down as more and more people either accept or decline the offer.

Differential and First Gen are gone for this year. Lower FSUG than PELL. Really, really ridiculous. I’m going to call tomorrow. Congrats, Jossie, on the first gen. There were only nine granted across the entire student body.

If the Differential Grant was gone, why would Jossie get it as part of his financial aid package?

It seems weird that if they were going to offer it to anyone, they would give it to incoming freshmen. It would seem like offering it to graduating seniors would make more sense.

A lot of this seems really weird. It’s like the left hand and right hand don’t know what’s going on.

I just meant its gone from ours.

Oh, okay, that makes sense.

Yeah, it’s gone from my financial aid page as well. Which is weird; I’ve gotten it the last 3 years, both with EFCs above and below my EFC for next year.

im calling tomorrow…thank you janna also. and pasbal what would the package awards say? under grants or scholarships?

Jossie- your first year package looks a lot like ours. Don’t turn your nose up at those loans. Your package isn’t half bad. :)

but i still have 8k left to pay, im sure it gets even worse too.

Jossie what was your EFC, if you don’t mind me asking?

Jossie - Doesn’t think equal up to about $18K (with loans) or am I reading this wrong?

for bright futures i got 2280, 5550 in pell grant, 1800 in fsu differential grant (too low), and 3k first generation grant for a total of 12630…they are offering me 5.5k in loans

If so, you are only $2K away from COA and that’s being generous. You can easily get through a year on $18K. My daughter made it her freshman year with $20K and had money to burn if I’m being honest.

Am I reading your financial aid package correctly?
