Fall term study abroad with language focus

Looking for a fall term study abroad program for a student starting Freshman year in January. Would like a language focus. Spain, France, Italy, Japan? Others?

Gracias!

You might want to figure out what language options the school offers before you make the choice – if the school the student will attend in January doesn’t have Japanese, a study abroad program might not be helpful. (Or it might be exactly what was wanted; I just wouldn’t want there to be a surprise.)

I think you have to first tell us what language the student wants to study, and what is their background in that and other foreign languages.

Otherwise “describe all possible language programs” is kinda broad …

My favorite fall study abroad language program would be Arabic at LAU in Beirut. It is a great program and you cannot beat the price.
The director, professor Mimi Jeha, is great, and there is an LAU U.S. office in NYC that can answer any questions you have. My daughter did this as SINARC last summer and would love to do it some fall.
(The application deadline is not for several months yet, and no previous knowledge of Arabic is required.)

Youth For Understanding has '“Gap Year” programs but they also have fall “Gap Semester Abroad” programs in many different countries. The deadline to apply was April 1 but they say they will consider late applications; you could check with them to see if some of the fall semester programs have space available.

Check and see if this is a program that the Univ. will accept as credit when your kid matriculates!!! Can your kid do a program through the university before matriculation?

Thanks folks! The links are especially helpful. We’re checking within the school for programs, and will consider the languages offered there - great point.

Any more links to programs?

IES. (10 char.)

If you google 'Study Abroad" you will get many options to check out. We did this recently for my daughter. The companies that kept coming up are, ISA, AIFS, CIEE, Abroad Co, CSA, GSA, etc. Some may require that you be a university student already (many are geared for college sophomores or juniors) but you can check. When my older daughter finished high school she went to Spain for a month with a language immersion program called Abbey Road. It was a summer program but they might have semester programs as well

I went to this program and stayed with a French family as did my two brothers. Good experience.
Just found a new one:
This is a cool fall semester in Argentina studying Spanish.
Would be great for a January admit student, someone whose fall is open.
a gap semester instead of a gap year
