In general, which type of transfer has a higher admission rate (Freshman Spring, Sophomore Fall). If these rates vary by schools, I'm particularly interested in these unis: CMU, NYU, Wash U, Brown and Tufts. I heard people saying it's almost impossible to transfer for Freshman Spring, but I've also heard otherwise.
Please help!

freshman spring is always a lot harder because if you have recently applied (to one of the schools you mentioned), theres not much the schools can go by since you have not finished your first semester of college and they cant see those grades. However, if you didnt apply to those schools yet, then your application will be solely based on HS grades and in majority, most schools like to take students who have completed at least a year of college work so they can see how you perform at the college level...

schools take more applicants in the fall. However, I am unsure about the percentage comparison - i.e. what percent of spring applicants are accepted and what percent of fall applicants are accepted. I imagine they're similar.

Socially speaking, fall would also be the better semester to transfer. Think of secondary school again - if you had to transfer high schools in the middle of 9th grade, you'd find that it's harder to make friends and to integrate into the school than it is to start fresh in the fall like everyone else.
