Fall Weekend 2011

Has anyone here applied to Pomona's Fall Weekend in the past and have any insight as to when the application generally becomes available? I'm very interested in attending!

Also: is a relatively low income (~45,000) student who is nonetheless not eligible for free/reduced lunch likely to get a travel grant? Student is also white and from the east coast.

“bump”

anyone?

If your combined family income is 45,000, I would expect you to get a travel grant (and a full ride if admitted).

Did anyone else apply for the October weekend?

Yessss!!! Pomona is one of my top choices. Where are you from?

How did you apply for this? I was wondering if Pomona had anything like a Diversity Overnight program or something, but since I couldn’t find anything about it on the website, I thought they discontinued it.

It’s not on the website. You have to call to find out more about it, and whether or not you’d be eligible.

Drumwriter! same here! I’m actually from Southern California so I didn’t apply for a travel grant but I reallllly want to go. hopefully i’ll see you there!

and ace747 and gnat, I just searched on google for “Pomona Fall Weekend 2011” and this came up: http://www.pomona.edu/admissions/files/fall-weekend-interest.pdf

Unfortunately, if you were thinking of going to the October one the deadline has passed. However, if you think you’ll be able to go to the November one the deadline is October 11.

I completed the app, wrote an essay on a separate page, got my transcript from my counselor and faxed all three to the number it said on that interest form.

btw, drumwriter is this how you got the app as well, or through mail, or…?

Thanks so much! I’ll definitely be applying for the November weekend. I’m excited now, because I thought I’d never get a chance to visit. Thank you again, and you should definitely tell us about your experience when you get back. :)

no prob ace! good luck!

I also found it by Google! I was actually on CC, looking at a thread that was super old but listed a bunch of these diversity weekends and it said Pomona had one but i thought it might have been discontinued cuz I couldn’t find it on the website and I googled it and…that was that! I have an income of ~40k and am in Michigan…praying for a travel grant!

I did that too! I’m applying to a couple other diversity weekends. I’m so glad that I found out about these. I think I’ve seen your screen name before in the QB forums (I’m applying too!)

Did you receive any sort of confirmation from Pomona that says they received your app?

Nope, but I called and had them check. Lol. I faxed mine, so I wanted to be 100% sure there was no connection problem or anything. And yes, I am also applying to QB! Very excited…hows you app so far?

Sent from my Vortex using CC App

Good idea! I’ll do the same tomorrow. and my app is… getting there. haha. I finished my bio essay and i’m doing bits and pieces of the other essays at times where I get bursts of inspiration. Other than that I pretty much have the other sections covered! how about yours?

If you really want to do the October date still, just call them up and they will consider your app for October. I’m 100% sure they haven’t looked at the apps yet, and you’d be surprised how many applications roll (way) past the deadline that colleges will still consider. Pomona’s administration is very friendly and accommodating, probably reflective of the laid back attitude on campus. When I try to get things done where I currently go to medical school, I am astounded how inflexible the administration can be in comparison to Pomona.

@Atelophobia (what is that, btw?) I have everything done except the Bio and additional info! All my short answers/form stuff is done and im using one essay from the college prep scholarship for #2 and wrote a new one on the intellectually exciting prompt for #1. It’s not as overwhelming as I thought it would be!! :)

Atelophobia is the fear of imperfection. haha, and i feel the same way! only 19 more days till the deadline. Goodluck, hopefully soon-to-be fellow finalist. :)

Ya learn something new every day  good luck to you too! If you’re not already on it, you should join our Facebook group. I think it’s called Questbridge applicants 2011-12 or…something of that nature. Anyhow, you should be a part of it! The old QB kids are on there and they have some super helpful advice.

haha, I actually already am! small world. and i agree! the mentors are awesome  I’m so grateful for QB and for that group.

Haha, that it is. Its weird to be on CC where you’re anonymous and then be talking to the same people on Facebook where you’re completely unanonymous…don’t think that’s a word. Anyway, did you call Pomona? When I called, the lady made it sounds like they’d be getting back to us really fast…like a couple of weeks tops.
