Im in this really messed up situation. Before november i decided to apply ED for Emory college but decided not to since I also wanted to apply for Chicago University's Early Action. However, I sent my transcript, my E.D agreement form, and SAT score, but I didn't even start my application on Common app. After while after i got deffered for Chicago ;_;, I sent in my regular application for Emory and other universities. However, just two days ago i got accepted as an Early Applicant for Emory University, even though when checked my common app it clearly shows up as regular application. Maybe they got confused since i sent my ED agreement form before.

Im still waiting for Chicago and Dartmouth, what should I Do? even though i applied regular for Emory I got accepted as ED. Theres no guarantee that they will allow me to change my application to regular and actually accept me, and theres also no guarantee that I will be accepted to Chicago nor Dartmouth.....

HELP! is there anyway to get out of this mess? I mean it is Emory's Mistake!

The ED agreement form is a binding contract. Did you send in the application before the ED deadline? Did you inform Emory with a letter or phone call that you would not be applying ED? If not, then I don’t think you can fault Emory for considering your application as ED, since you did sign the ED agreement form. That takes a lot more effort and is a lot more obvious than a check mark on the common app.

On the other hand, if you really feel strongly, email/call Emory and tell them what happened. I’m not sure what they would do in this situation, but be aware that they may revoke your admission. I’ve heard rumors that they will contact other schools that you applied to, but I’m not sure how true that is.

I think you could definitely call Emory and explain the whole situation. Since you didn’t have all your materials in and were not trying to apply ED, I think they would let you out of that agreement. However, if you are set on going to Emory anyway, it really isn’t worth going through those hassles with admissions. Admissions may not appreciate your lack of commitment and why go through the trouble yourself if that is really where you want to go.

messed up situation; but what makes no sense is that the OP says he/she applied with the ED agreement BEFORE November, meaning that they should have heard in December; how did you end up with an EDII decision instead? Is that because the common app didn’t reach them until later?

moot point if you are attending, but, agree with above posters…the ED agreement superceded the common app RD notification…
